We are seeking a Topside Engineer to support the Integrated Topside and Below Deck Design of AEGIS Equipped Navy Destroyers and Frigates. This position involves the execution of complex engineering tasks related to the design, development, integration, and performance assessment of topside systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in shipboard system engineering, with emphasis on system performance, ship operations.
Responsibilities:
- Support the design and integration of topside systems including sensors, communications, radars, and antennas to optimize performance and reduce topside interference.
- Conduct engineering analysis to ensure system performance requirements are met in operational naval environments along with recommendations of potential design changes required.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define and refine design specifications aligned with mission needs and platform capabilities.
- Perform modeling, simulation, and testing to evaluate shipboard equipment configurations for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), radar cross-section (RCS), and field-of-view requirements.
- Assist in the development and validation of test plans, system integration plans, and certification documentation.
- Participate in research and development (R&D) activities to evaluate emerging technologies and assess applicability to naval topside systems.
- Support shipboard testing, trials, and operational assessments to validate design performance.
- Prepare technical reports, design documents, and briefings for senior leadership and stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in shipboard systems design, integration, or testing.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance, U.S. Citizenship is required.
- This position requires the successful applicant to obtain and maintain the required security clearance or other authorization(s) within the necessary timeframe required by applicable contract(s).
- Knowledge of naval operations and requirements for topside system layout and functionality.
- Experience with systems engineering processes, including requirements definition, interface management, and verification/validation.
- Familiarity with tools and methods for reviewing and creating 2D/3D models and drawings for installation of shipboard components.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across diverse technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of U.S. Navy system certification.
- Active security clearance.
Work Environment:
This role will involve a combination of office work, shipboard visits, and test site support. Occasional travel will be required for ship integration events and testing activities.
