In New Taipei, Taiwan, we serve global clients in telecom and datacom industries in providing innovative optical modules and subsystems to support our customer’s next generation networks. We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.
This person will be initially responsible for the design, development, and testing of mechanical fixtures and tooling used during the manufacturing and assembly process for optical networking devices and systems. The requirements are often more specialized due to the precision, tight tolerances, and sensitive components involved. You will be responsible for leading the mechanical aspects of these tools from concept to production, collaborating with other engineers, scientists, and customers, and ensuring the highest quality and performance of these devices. You will work with multi-discipline teams including: Product line managers, PCB designers, electrical, mechanical, software, and optical engineering teams.
What You Will Do
- Generate mechanical fixtures and tools, create test plans, technical documents, reports, and presentations, perform tolerance analysis, characterize devices, generate engineering changes, release drawings for fabrication, evaluate vendors, analyze issues and determine root cause, and manage project including schedule, budget, and resources
- Work with team members to optimize and finalize design for full production and to meet all specifications
- Present tooling concepts and design improvements to cross functional team members
- Provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians
- Support process development and production teams
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, or related technical field or discipline
- At least 8 years of experience in tooling and fixture design, with specific experience in precision assembly environments
- Experience working with optical devices, including lenses, sensors, fiber optics, or laser systems
- Proven expertise in precision machining, assembly fixtures, and tooling for optical components or systems. Understanding optical alignment processes and the design of tooling/fixtures used to assist in optical component alignment with sub-micron precision
- Familiarity with high-precision tolerance designs for components like mirrors, lenses, prisms, or other delicate optical elements
- Experience in designing fixture that aid in active alignment processes and calibration of optical devices
- Knowledge of adhesive bonding techniques, curing methods, and how they apply to optical devices
- Solid fundamental knowledge and expertise in electro-mechanical designs and assemblies, such as telecommunications, data communications, consumer or industrial products, robotics, computers, embedded system, mobile phones, automotive, etc.
- Solid experience using CAD tools, such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD for designing fixtures and tooling
- Familiar with DFMEA, PFMEA, DOE, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Familiar with design for manufacturing and yield
- Demonstrated ability to analyze information and solve problems, especially for components with very tight tolerances and to identify fixture improvements that enhance production accuracy or throughput
- Experience in leading projects, coordinating team members, ensuring on-time delivery and within budget
- Experience in mentoring other engineers
- Provided technical advice to management and other engineers
- Ability to speak and communicate in English
What Will Put You Ahead
- MS or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, or related field related technical discipline
