Responsibilities

  • Manage the mechanical development of high voltage power supply designs
    • May include managing other engineers
    • RFQ support and customer involvement
    • Requiring and specifying tests and/ or simulations as needed
    • Assessing test/ simulation results and ensuring designs are fit for function
  • Mechanical ownership or accountability for designs, including:
    • Conceptualisation of electro-mechanical packaging
    • Detailed mechanical design and technical documentation
    • Thermal management
    • Manufacturability
    • Release and acceptance of parts and assemblies
    • Problem analysis and solution
    • Adherence to cost and schedule targets
  • Participation in design reviews
  • Production line and sustaining support
  • Cooperation with manufacturing and design sites worldwide

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • At least 8 years’ electro-mechanical design experience within the electronic systems industry
  • Problem analyst and solver
  • Thorough and attentive to detail
  • Supervisory experience
  • Able to work well with others and communicate clearly in a technical environment

Valuable Skills and Experience

  • Designing parts for sheet metal forming, injection moulding, extrusion, casting, and other relevant manufacturing processes
  • Selecting and specifying electro-mechanical components such as fans, connectors, heat sinks, thermal interface materials, wires, insulators, etc.
  • Understanding of electronics packaging concepts such as PCBs, device package types, assembly processes, isolation, coupling, creepage, clearance, etc.
  • Thermal management of air and/ or liquid cooled systems including the design and specification of liquid cooled cold plates
  • Performance verification of mechanical parts and systems
  • Tolerance analysis and basic engineering calculations
  • Preparation of technical documentation including specifications, technical drawings to national standards, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, BoMs, ECOs, etc.
  • Mechanical costing and cost reduction
  • Proficiency with a 3D CAD system (ideally Solidworks or Creo) and data management
  • Experience in the use of thermal or structural simulation software
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with standard Office applications
