Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s degree preferred. Three years of related experience. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Coordinates the instruction of introductory laboratories General Biology I and II, Environmental Science, and Contemporary Biology.
Primary Responsibilities
Supervises lab instruction by graduate teaching assistants and undergraduate student lab assistants. Conducts weekly prep sessions with lab instructors to plan teaching of each weekly lab. Requisitions materials and equipment for freshman labs (including ordering, scheduling of use, dates, storage, maintenance and inventory). Registers freshman non-major lecture and lab sections. Schedules labs and assignment of lab instructors to each. Works with faculty committees on lab manual revisions and computer testing programs. Supervises work study student assistants in preparation of lab materials, clean up and care of the prep and storage room. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Contact with vendors who provide supplies and materials for lab activities. Must be familiar with common laboratory equipment. Must be able to follow oral and written instruction. Position requires frequent contact with students, staff and faculty. Attention and care is required in the performance of duties to prevent injury to self or others.
