Job Title: Automation Systems Engineer

Job Description

The Automation Systems Engineer supports the design engineering development and reviews, ensuring that hardware devices are adequately included to fulfill the intended system sequence of operations. The role involves performing and leading software development to generate control systems databases, programs, and system graphics for assigned projects. Coordination with Project Managers, Engineers, and Field Technicians is essential to ensure timely project completion within budget and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and contractors to integrate HVAC controls programming with overall building systems.
  • Support the execution of initial systems point-to-point commissioning activities remotely from the office.
  • Troubleshoot remote local and wide area network issues as they arise at project sites.
  • Utilize computer hardware and software to support pre-functional testing of system software code.
  • Participate in remote support for final systems functional testing relative to standards and guidelines.
  • Efficiently program and support Sunbelt Controls OEM partnerships product lines.
  • Develop skills for third party integration of vendor products, systems, and protocols.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to HVAC controls, including software bugs, communication errors, and hardware malfunctions.
  • Analyze system performance, identify inefficiencies, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Customize and optimize control strategies for HVAC systems using industry-standard protocols.
  • Conduct design reviews, peer evaluations, and simulations to validate system performance and safety.
  • Coordinate with Commissioning Agents for programming sequences and functional test script development.
  • Support project turnover from construction phase to the Service team on program/sequence review and database backups.
  • Assist Design Engineers with sequence of operations validation against design build and/or contract requirements.
  • Manage project time commitments and budgets, providing regular feedback on work status and progress.
  • Communicate effectively with project team members using Slack and PORT tools.
  • Adhere to programming standards and guidelines developed by technical committees.
  • Manage time and track work progress and cost-to-complete through operational processes and tools.
  • Adhere to company policy, standards, and cybersecurity solutions.
  • Practice safe work habits and participate in office safety program requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and HVAC building automation controls.
  • Experience with platforms like Johnson Controls, Honeywell, and Delta.
  • Associates Degree in a technical field or 2-5 years of related work experience in building automation systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, computer science, or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard programming languages, protocols, and software tools (BACnet, Modbus, Niagara Framework, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Windows, File Structure, and basic TCP/IP network structure.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications in HVAC Controls Programming or Building Automation Systems are advantageous.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks in a high-paced environment.
  • Ability to operate independently and autonomously, taking ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to ensure high customer satisfaction and quality of delivery.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment

The position is onsite in Pleasanton, providing a dynamic work environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $86000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
