Assist in performing necropsy procedures, sample receiving section, and the histology section. Assist or manage necropsy room, inventory, supplies, maintenance and all disposals. Fill-in as a backup in histology and sample receiving. Provide staffing and technical assistance to other laboratory sections. Perform other duties as assigned.
30% - Essential - Necropsy Procedures: Assists the veterinary pathologist or diagnostician with necropsy procedures including initial dissection when requested as appropriate. Perform necropsy section sanitation and maintenance as required by the laboratory quality program. Control necropsy room inventory. Properly dispose of laboratory waste, assist in operating and maintaining the incinerator/carcass remains.
30% - Essential - Histology: Provides staffing support and technical support in histology as needed and in support of the lab quality system. Trims formalin-fixed tissues, processes, embeds, sections and stains to produce histopathological slides. Prepares and stains cytology preparations for microscopic examination. Prepares special stains as requested by the pathologists. Prepares and handles chemicals and equipment using proper safety precautions. Maintains and archives paraffin blocks and glass slides, and assists in other duties as required in the histology section.
20% - Essential - Sample receiving and customer assistance: Assists clients with specimen, animal submission, and other related activities, unloading from vehicles. Deliver samples to the appropriate sections. Enters data accurately into laboratory information management system. Provide the best customer service possible.
10% - Essential - Compliance: Complies with laboratory quality program policies and procedures. Assists technical, professional and administrative staff in support of quality program activities throughout the laboratory that align with ISO 17025 standards.
10% - Essential - Laboratory management: Package and ship diagnostic specimens following all IATA and DOT regulations. Assist in preparing media as requested by the other laboratory sections.
Any other duties as assigned to provide staffing support throughout the laboratory.
Education - An associate degree or equivalent technical training in electronics technology, biology or the natural sciences and work experience in a laboratory environment; or a high school diploma and journey-level work experience in a laboratory environment.

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
