Job Title: Sr. Magnetics Designer

Job Description

As a Senior Magnetics Designer, you will focus on designing and analyzing magnetic components such as high-frequency inductors and large multi-phase dry-type water and conduction-cooled transformers and ATRUs. Your extensive knowledge of materials and construction techniques will be crucial in understanding how they affect component characteristics. You will work with power ratings ranging from 100W to 500kW and voltages between 100V and 13.8KV, ideally with military or aerospace experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze magnetic components, ensuring their optimal performance.
  • Create engineering requirements for magnetic components and systems.
  • Conduct FEM and circuit simulations, using results to guide design decisions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to design, validate, and manufacture magnetic components.
  • Work with internal and external teams to build prototype components and assemblies.
  • Optimize components to meet system requirements.
  • Work closely with the manufacturing team to ensure parts are made to specification, improve quality, and enhance yield.
  • Design thermal management strategies with the mechanical team.
  • Ensure timely and budget-conscious completion of design and transfer to production.
  • Engage with customers to understand their needs and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers to help them develop their skills.

Essential Skills

  • Solid understanding of magnetics theory and application, including inductors, transformers, and planar magnetics.
  • Proficiency in FEM and circuit simulation tools such as Matlab, Comsol, and others.
  • Experience with thermal FEM and thermal and vibration analysis.
  • Hands-on approach to building prototypes and performing testing.
  • Expertise in mechanical design and engineering using tools like Creo Parametric Pro/Engineer.
  • Proficiency in GD&T, CAD, and sheet metal design.
  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in military or aerospace settings is advantageous.

Work Environment

The work environment involves collaboration with a manufacturing team, where you will be actively engaged in the design and production of magnetic components. The role requires a hands-on approach and proficiency in various design tools and technologies.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $160000.00/yr.
