Summary

Responsible for managing the electrical and mechanical infrastructure supporting company information systems. This includes operations in data centers, voice network equipment rooms, print shops, and mail centers. The role ensures 24/7 uptime for critical infrastructure systems such as UPS/power distribution and HVAC. The engineer coordinates internal and external resources and works with contractors, vendors, and consultants to achieve successful outcomes on infrastructure-related projects.

Description

Location: This position is full-time (40-hours/week) Monday-Friday in a typical office environment. You will work an 8-hour shift scheduled during our normal business hours of 8:00AM-5:00PM. This role is located at 3060 Alpine Road, Columbia, SC 29223.

Exposure to noise, dust, oil, and other mechanical elements—none of which are persistently disagreeable. This is an on-call role requiring availability and accessibility via cell phone at all times.

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with network support and computer operations teams to stay informed of upcoming hardware changes in data centers, the print shop, and corporate network locations.
  • Serve as the primary on-call contact for data center power and HVAC infrastructure emergencies; respond and resolve issues promptly.
  • Negotiate contracts for projects and service agreements with minimal oversight. Assist in developing strategic plans for electrical and HVAC systems. Oversee and coordinate maintenance activities for power and HVAC infrastructure.
  • Manage electrical and mechanical systems including panelboards, switchgear, ATS, generators, and HVAC equipment. Oversee procurement, installation, and maintenance of UPS systems.
  • Coordinate and manage infrastructure-related construction projects—from concept to occupancy—including renovations and new builds.
  • Select, train, coach, and develop team members. Participate in data center tours, audits, and procurement efforts by providing technical explanations of critical systems.

To Qualify for This Position, You'll Need the Following:

  • Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Required Work Experience: 10+ years in power distribution, electrical systems design, and working knowledge of mechanical systems.
  • Required Software and Tools: Microsoft Office, Outlook, Sitescan or similar monitoring tools. Electrical switchgear, UPS systems, generators, metering devices, and standard hand/power tools
  • Required Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong organizational and customer service skills.
    • Effective written and verbal communication.
    • Ability to persuade, negotiate, and influence others
  • Required Licenses and Certificates:
    • Must complete coaching certification within three months of hire.
    • Must successfully complete required departmental training within three months of hire.

  • Preferred Software and Other Tools: Oracle Unifier, PlanGrid, AutoCAD
  • Preferred Licenses and Certificates: SC Professional Engineer (PE)
