Polaris is seeking a Test & Validation Engineer to join the marine innovation team. The Test & Validation Engineer will lead the creation and execution of the DVP&R (Design Verification Plan and Report) and the issue resolution process for the marine innovation team. Develop, implement, and maintain engineering test procedures and validation plans to ensure thorough validation for systems and components representative of customer usage. Use reliability methodologies to ensure vehicle and components meet design and quality targets. Act as an integrated member of the project team from concept to production to ensure high quality product is delivered to our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineering and product management to understand software and hardware specifications and develop appropriate validation plans.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and conduct component, system, and full vehicle level tests.
  • Work with the project teams and internal and external test resources to ensure validation activity is performed as planned during the development process and communicate status to management and stakeholders throughout Product Development Process (PDP) phases.
  • Lead validation of components, systems, and full vehicles through various tests including acoustics & vibration, structural, environmental, software, mileage & hour accumulation, and more.
  • Develop vehicle and component level durability and reliability goals.
  • Lead issue resolution process for issues identified during the validation process.
  • Support team in root cause analysis of issues discovered and provide potential solutions.
  • Instrument vehicles to measure strain, acceleration, force, voltage, current, etc. as needed to support test design and issue resolution.
  • Utilize hardware and software including Somat eDaq, nCode Glyphworks, Aptiv, ReliaSoft, and other data acquisition, processing, and controls products.
  • Lead and mentor others in test methodologies and technical projects as required.
  • Improve existing and develop new test procedures and processes as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Strong technical analysis and problem-solving skills required.
  • Hands-on knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems required.
  • Familiarity with Product Development Process (PDP) stage gate development.
  • Must be conscientious, detail oriented, committed to quality and timeliness in your deliverables.
  • Experience with data acquisition, fatigue, signal processing, and Test/ Validation desired.
  • Quick learner with a high level of ambition and drive.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work in a small team environment.
  • Ability to work with and travel to domestic and international technology partners.
  • Self-starter that thrives in a fast-paced work environment.

Preferred:

  • Strong understanding of validation in the Marine industry and associated technical design, compliance, standards, environment, and application(s).
  • Experienced validating composites, fiberglass, etc.
  • Experience with marine jet-propulsion systems and powertrain integration

Working Conditions

  • Some travel required ~20% for external partner interface, field testing trips, etc.
  • Fast-paced, small/start up style team and environment
