JOB DESCRIPTION:
Plan, develop, test and supervise engineering applications development and support both internal and external clients in the offshore/marine industry. Contribute to improve and innovate ABS Engineering Applications, i.e., ABS developed engineering analysis and class compliance software used by ABS engineering department and ABS clients at shipyards and ship design houses, or for ship and offshore structural analysis and design, as part of a Digital Class framework utilizing knowledge of engineering analysis, information technology, and digitalization, as well as creative, innovative and forward-looking solutions. Identify opportunities and propose solutions to improve Engineering Applications, for evaluating the structural design of multiple vessel types including containerships, liquefied gas carriers, and liquefied natural gas carriers. Serve as leader or member of Engineering Applications development or support the team, which oversees the development of the class compliance software. Responsible for carrying out assigned duties on schedule and within budget. Serve as a leader in coordination and collaboration effort with Engineering, Technology, IT as well as other Departments for Engineering Applications planning, design, development, test and maintenance. Maintain good relations with customers and coworkers and supports Engineering Application users. Responsible for development of suggested Engineering Applications development projects, which includes evaluating the structural design of multiple vessel types, providing assessment of ship structures for compliance, and completing finite element analysis to perform direct strength and fatigue assessment, as well as the design and classing of ship-type Floating Production Installations (FPI), as assigned. Provide expert advice as necessary in matters related to the application of technology, engineering, Rules and Regulations. Collect user feedback and client needs, track industrial trends and technology development and propose new features, technologies and solutions for continuous improvement of Engineering Applications, to assist clients with assessing compliance, stability and structural integrity in vessel design. Ensure that all ABS Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System requirements with regard to technical work within assigned areas of responsibility are fulfilled. Perform selected engineering analyses.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering or Computer Science.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Five (5) years of experience in engineering analysis, in marine or offshore structures and naval architecture with a shipyard, marine or offshore design/consulting/contractor office or a classification society.
