Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Systems – Global SE Interface Lead (25-078) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Colorado Springs, CO., or Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It serves as a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor the development of the battle collectively, and dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that facilitates an optimized response to threats across all ranges in every flight phase. C2BMC acts as a force multiplier, globally and regionally networking and synchronizing autonomous sensors and weapon systems to enhance performance. C2BMC is essential for all system ground and flight tests, verifying and demonstrating the capabilities of all current and future missile defense systems.

This position will be assigned to the C2BMC-G Systems Engineering Team within SEIT. This is a Systems Engineer role, which will occasionally require support for non-interface systems engineering activities. The C2BMC-G Interface Lead will manage a small team of Interface engineers in the development of ICDs and IDDs. This involves establishing new interfaces between external elements, including space and terrestrial sensors, to facilitate seamless integration. As the lead of the interface team, the Interface Lead will ensure that issues and challenges within the team are resolved and that the ICDs and IDDs created by the team meet the necessary standards required by the program.

Essential Functions:

• Assist in the training and mentoring of the Interface Team
• Develop and oversee the development of various behavioral diagrams to understand and document the requirements
• Create requirements captured in DOORS and in sufficient detail to provide a clear understanding to the implementation teams
• Develop and oversee the development of behavioral diagrams to understand the requirements and behavior of the interface
• Primary responsibility will be developing and updating multiple Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents
• Attend interface working group meetings with MDA customers and representatives of assigned external element engineering organizations, as well as support program integration and test-related efforts for the associated interface
• May be assigned to support other interface engineers in developing ICDs for other BMDS Elements, support requirements engineering, use case development, and logical architecture modeling tasks as SE department tasking requires
• Support spiral leadership to ensure interface artifacts and system assessment tasks required for the assigned sensor interface are completed when needed
• Must have experience in authoring ICDs and IDDs that are DID-compliant and to DoD Standards
• Must be able to lead and function as part of an experienced team in developing systems engineering products and artifacts while adhering to the program Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) and other processes

Salary range in Huntsville: $131,100 - $196,700

Salary range in Colorado Springs: $124,900 - $187,300

Basic Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in STEM fields such as Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, Software Engineering, or Mathematics, from an accredited university, is preferred, along with 8 years of relevant work experience. Alternatively, a Master’s degree (preferred) in a related STEM discipline, accompanied by 6 years of relevant work experience, or a PhD in a related discipline, accompanied by 4 years of relevant work experience, will also be considered
• Applicants must possess a current, active, in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is necessary to start
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
• Must possess an understanding of systems engineering processes and principles
• Must have a proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions
• Must have experience in requirements elicitation, including the use of behavior diagrams as an analysis tool to understand and break down requirements
• Must have demonstrated systems engineering skills and experience in interface engineering, including authoring Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs), such as:
  • Message definition and processing rules
  • Message formatting (e.g., XML, VMF, et al.)
  • Physical/network specifications and models, including the ISO OSI model
  • Physical/network topologies and devices
  • Network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, etc.)
• Requirements encompass the engineering and development of behavioral models and diagrams, including use cases, sequence diagrams, and activity diagrams
• Must have excellent communication skills
• Requirements engineering, including experience working with IBM Rational's Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS)
• Risk Management Framework (RMF) based cyber security and experience with Agile or Iterative Development Methods

Preferred Qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in a related field and six (6) years of experience are highly preferred
• Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
• Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF)
• Experience authoring Space or Terrestrial Sensors, Missile Defense Systems (MDS), or Space Domain ICDs and IDDs is highly desirable

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:

Salary Range: $124,900.00 - $196,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
