Job Title: Distribution Designer

Job Description

Join a dynamic Engineering Consulting Company in Michigan as a Distribution Designer. This role involves developing design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems tailored for electric utility customers. You will engage in frequent communication with clients through meetings, emails, phone calls, and team collaborations.

Responsibilities

• Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems.
• Review client-provided work and assess scope requirements.
• Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions, and voltage drop and flicker calculations.
• Provide engineering support during construction and conduct post-construction reviews.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and develop mitigation strategies using engineering principles.
• Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements.
• Develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments.
• Handle work permit development, easements, and right-of-way applications.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering. Open to candidates with an associate degree with relevant experience.
• Experience with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, or MicroStation, particularly with grading or pipe network functions.
• Basic utility knowledge.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Open to entry-level candidates, but preference for those with experience in electric distribution design engineering.
• Experience working directly with an electric utility or a consulting company in the field is advantageous.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.50 - $32.00/hr.
