The Amazon Robotics Sensor Team is seeking a talented and motivated System Development Engineer to develop and integrate next generation sensor technology in robotics. We are a multi-disciplinary team aiming to enable broad use cases of sensor technology in Amazon fulfillment network. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing robotics sensor and compute systems. The candidate need to have strong technical expertise to deliver independently, as well as great leadership skills to work on multiple projects with internal customers and external partners. You will have an impact on everything from our technology roadmap, to the functionality we deliver for our customers, to the design and architecture of our systems, to the culture we build. Key job responsibilities

  • Research emerging sensor technologies and investigate potential applications in Amazon fulfillment network.
  • Partner with hardware, firmware, software and testing teams as well as suppliers to develop sensor technologies from concept to high volume production.
  • Design and develop sensor and compute products characterization methodologies and automate the solutions.
  • Define system requirements and test plans, drive experiments, data collection, perform system/sub-system level testing and evaluation.
  • Work backwards from customer needs and work directly with internal customers to advise sensor selection, design sensor and compute systems, develop integration plans and prototype solutions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS/MS/PhD in Electrical/Mechanical/Computer/System Engineering or related discipline.
  • 2+ years of system development experience in concept-to-production environment.
  • 2+ Experience with sensing technologies, including but not limited to camera, stereo camera, time-of-flight camera, radar, and lidar.
  • Experience designing sensors and/or sensor & compute systems for high fidelity perception applications.
  • Experience with Python or other programing language.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience developing sensor characterization methodologies and infrastructure.
  • Ability to write comprehensive functional requirements and test plans.
  • Ability to solve complex problems in creative, efficient, and effective ways.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership, teamwork and collaboration skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to support domestic and international travel as required by the program
