About Ontario Health: The Health Force Division of Ontario Health drives the advancement of health human resources (HHR) initiatives with a focus on building and optimizing health workforce capacity in critical health system areas. We support priority populations through equitable access to HHR, build provincial HHR data repositories, maximize and optimize health professional recruitment supports, and provide crisis response/system stabilization solutions to HHR challenges

Position Overview: Reporting to the Manager, Health Workforce Advisors, the Health Workforce Advisor leverages specialized knowledge of health professional licensing to help healthcare employers address critical staffing shortages. This role involves developing outreach mechanisms to identify recruitment candidates and assisting employers and health professionals in navigating immigration, licensing, and supervision arrangements to support the recruitment of high professionals to high-need healthcare organizations

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Provide information, support, and advice to Ontario’s health service providers on licensing and immigration to support health professional recruitment, with a focus on physicians and nurses
  • Function as a key resource and expert on physician licensing, nurse licensing, and immigration for all related health human resources recruitment and workforce planning activities
  • Conduct health professional job market analyses and create targeted outreach initiatives to connect health professionals to high-need communities/healthcare organizations
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of licensing and immigration policies and programs, assessing how changes may impact health professional recruitment in Ontario
  • Develop resources to assist healthcare employers and health professionals in priority areas with navigating various pathways to licensure
  • Liaise and collaborate with both internal and external partners to provide seamless and knowledgeable recruitment support services in the areas of licensing and immigration
  • Support the Manager with special projects, operational activities, and training new staff

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a healthcare setting, including health professional credentialing and/or experience working with Ontario’s health professional regulatory colleges
  • Expert-level knowledge on program-relevant topics including physician licensing, nurse licensing, international medical graduates, Canadians studying abroad, postgraduate medical education, physician recruitment, retention and distribution, and the healthcare system
  • Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal resources and services available to assist clients/stakeholders
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to assess client information and requirements
  • Research, analytical, and program planning skills to develop solutions to meet the needs of clients and stakeholders
  • Customer service, interpersonal, judgment, communication, and stakeholder relations skills to build collaborative and trusting relationships with clients and stakeholders
  • Self-directed and takes initiative to work well independently and in a team
  • Time management and organizational skills to multi-task and work in a fast-paced and changing environment as a collaborative team player
  • Public speaking and facilitation skills to facilitate training and information sessions
  • Knowledge of office/project administration software and database information technologies
  • Knowledge of immigration policies and pathways is considered an asset
