Hot Section Engineering (HSE) at Pratt & Whitney is looking for a motivated, ambitious individual to join our Hot Section Durability organization in our East Hartford, CT location. The Durability Discipline is highly specialized with particular focus on advanced cooling designs, aerodynamics, heat transfer, lifing, coatings, high-temperature aerospace alloys, and manufacturing. HSE is seeking a dynamic individual to drive the development and execution of tools and strategies to evaluate Hot Section Refurbishment Interval (HSRI) status, forecasts, and risks, and to facilitate related decision-making. This candidate will need to leverage technical acumen, curiosity and attention to detail to produce robust predictions and actionable insights into the fielded performance of our Hot Section products.

What You Will Do

  • Drive advancement, consistency, and continuous improvement of HSRI predictions
  • Integrate across CIPTs, Core Durability, and Durability Analytics to identify and coordinate execution of highest priority model updates (e.g. thermal models, damage models and lifing models) based on field learning, engine/rig learning, and lifing system improvements
  • Define, standardize, and document HSRI evaluation process inclusive of model maintenance, generation of status and forecasts, field calibration, and delivery to Program
  • Maintain robust reporting framework including HSRI roadmaps and risk registers to communicate with intention and consistency to key stakeholders (CIPT, SIPT, IPMT, HSE leadership)
  • Ensure the quality and timely execution of Program deliverables such as ICE updates, Engineering memos, engine removal forecast inputs, and risk assessments

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 8 years of engineering experience or 5 years with an advanced degree
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Proficiency in technically guiding and mentoring engineers, with experience in turbine heat transfer, statistics (particularly Weibull analysis), and deterioration analysis
  • Knowledge of airfoil lifing failure modes and mission life modeling for typical airfoil limiting modes such as oxidation, creep, corrosion and TMF
  • Experience in coordination of technical projects across small to midsize teams
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills

Hot Section Engineering (HSE)-Department Overview

Hot Section Engineering is responsible for the design, development, technology maturation and in service support of all diffuser cases, combustors, turbines (vanes, blades, rotors and cases), augmenters (military), nozzles and associated fuel systems for all military, commercial and industrial engine models and radial auxiliary power units. Technical disciplines in HSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Durability and Product Definition.

What is my role type?

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
