Position Title: CL91330 Groundskeeper IV

Location: Maintenance & Operations Department

Work Year: 12 months

Hours/Days: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week

Daily Schedule: Monday - Friday (6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.)

This position is anticipated to start on July 1, 2025

Job Description

GROUNDSKEEPER IV

JOB SUMMARY

Positions in this class are assigned a working lead role over assigned workers under the general supervision of the Grounds and Custodial Manager, to perform general and varied grounds keeping work; to schedule, direct and oversee the work of other groundskeepers. Incumbents perform tasks requiring a higher degree of skill, more training and less supervision.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Assigns, inspects and supervises the work of grounds crews engaged in general gardening and landscaping;
  • Assist in repair and installation of sprinkling systems;
  • Installation of athletic equipment, and preparation and care of athletic fields;
  • Arranges for the application of herbicides, pesticides, weed abatement, and fertilizers;
  • Assures proper safety and health regulations and practices are observed;
  • Assures that landscaped areas are kept clean, leaves and debris raked, removed and disposed of;
  • Inspects tools and equipment and sees they are kept in proper working order;
  • Confers with supervisor regarding projects;
  • Estimates materials and labor required for these projects;
  • Processes work orders;
  • Participates in performance evaluations of assigned employees;
  • Schedules work in cooperation with other operations;
  • Perform general grounds maintenance work typical of lower grounds keeping classes.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

KNOWLEDGE OF

  • Proper use, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in grounds and general utility work;
  • Operation, care, maintenance and safe use of motorized grounds equipment
  • District operational procedures;
  • Basic principles of supervision.

ABILITY TO

  • Plan, organize, direct or supervise the work of others;
  • Plan and project labor and time costs;
  • Perform skilled grounds maintenance work;
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;
  • Write routine reports and correspondence;
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals;
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form;
  • Operate and maintain a variety of power grounds equipment and tools safely and skillfully;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Respond appropriately to direction and changes in work setting;
  • Maintain established pace;
  • Work with minimal supervision;
  • Perform repetitive tasks & complex tasks;
  • Make work decisions;
  • Demonstrate good problem-solving skills.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above

EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) years of responsible experience in grounds maintenance and utility work;
  • or two (2) years of experience at or equivalent to the level of Groundskeeper II or III in the Hemet Unified School District.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

  • Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver's License and maintain possession of such license during the course of employment;
  • Have an acceptable driving record;
  • Must be insurable at standard rates by District's insurance carrier and maintain such insurability during the course of employment;

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: Reach (continuously); walk, sit and bend (frequently); stand, stoop, squat, kneel, climb, push, pull and twist (occasionally); lift up to 50 pounds alone, to 75 pounds with assistance (occasionally), over 100 pounds with assistance (infrequently); grasp & manipulate tools/ equipment (frequently); use seeing, hearing & speaking.

Working Conditions: Work outdoors. Exposure to: seasonal outdoor temperatures (30° -120°), dust & wind, electrically or mechanically operated equipment, gas fumes, tool vibration, sun and insects.
