Job Description:

Position Title: Assistant Controller

Location: Irving, TX (On-site)

Salary: $140K–$160K

Employment Type: Permanent

Role Overview:

A financial leadership role responsible for managing accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance. The Assistant Controller will oversee financial statement preparation, regulatory filings, and reinsurance reporting. This position involves managing a team of eight professionals, guiding them in financial strategy, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and optimizing financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and SSAP.
  • Maintain compliance with insurance industry regulations, tax filings, debt covenants, and solvency requirements.
  • Manage regulatory filings with industry oversight bodies.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls for financial operations.
  • Oversee reinsurance reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Lead and mentor a finance team, fostering professional development.
  • Collaborate with auditors, regulators, actuaries, and senior leadership.
  • Support financial strategy and provide insights into company performance.

Requirements:

  • Industry Experience: Minimum 5–10 years in finance or accounting, specifically within property and casualty (P&C) insurance.
  • Leadership: At least 3 years in a managerial capacity, overseeing financial teams.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Expertise in financial systems (SAP, Oracle Netsuite, or insurance-specific software), advanced Excel, financial modeling, and internal controls.
  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in an accounting role within P&C insurance.
  • Deep understanding of statutory reporting and insurance finance operations.
