SUMMARY:
The R&D Engineer is responsible for supporting the development of new products from concept through to production. This includes involvement in technical quoting, prototype/sample preparation, validation testing, detailed design, and working closely with suppliers and internal production teams. The role requires a hands-on approach to product development, ensuring new designs meet performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Support the preparation of technical quotations by evaluating customer requirements, estimating design and manufacturing feasibility, and contributing to cost assessments.
- Coordinate and prepare prototypes and samples to support customer trials, internal testing, and design reviews.
- Conduct and document validation testing to ensure new products meet functional, performance, and compliance requirements.
- Develop detailed product designs and specifications using CAD software, design standards, analysis, FMEA, DFA/DFM and engineering principles.
- Collaborate with suppliers to source components, obtain manufacturability feedback, and ensure timely procurement for prototypes and production.
- Work closely with internal production teams to transition new designs to manufacturing, including process development, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- Participate in design reviews and project meetings to ensure alignment with technical and commercial objectives.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance product performance, reduce cost, or improve manufacturing processes.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including drawings, BOMs, validation reports, and revision control records.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
MANAGEMENT:
This position does not have direct reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in a product development or R&D environment.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar).
- Understanding of engineering materials, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability.
- Experience with prototype development and testing methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills across engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing teams.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to shifting project priorities.
- Familiarity with quality systems, documentation control, and validation protocols is an advantage.
- Occasional travel may be required to suppliers or manufacturing sites.
- Experience with hydraulics/valves preferred but not required
