We are currently seeking a Mechanical Structural Engineering Manager to join our Strategic Reentry Programs (SRP) team in Valley Forge PA.

If you have the passion and perseverance to dream big, join us as an Associate Manager in the Mechanical Products team supporting the Strategic Reentry Program (SRP) portfolio across multiple sites (e.g. Denver, CO, Valley Forge, PA, Sunnyvale, CA) and multiple programs!

As a coded leader, the selected candidate will manage definition, interpretation, and implementation of design requirements, task delegation, coordination and execution of hardware designs, development and integration of hardware custom and procured mechanical structural assemblies in accordance with engineering process specifications. Ensure designs adhere to LM Common Integrated Processes as documented in Command Media, and drive process improvement into the design culture. Provide solution based technical mentoring to improve program performance and to drive error free design using proven tools, processes and predictive measures.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Manage a team of 8-10 mechanical engineers by providing oversight, technical mentoring, career development, training, and performance reviews
  • Work collaboratively with the program(s) your team supports and with functional senior leadership to manage staffing requirements and plan job assignments and rotations to sustain engineering capabilities and critical skills; and drive performance management, career development, and personnel related activities
  • Represent the organization in design reviews and external interactions, practicing Full Spectrum Leadership behaviors.
  • Oversee cost, schedule, and technical product management for all phases of reentry program life cycle, facilitating strategic initiatives for affordability and efficiency across Programs you will support.
  • Engage with Program Leadership and Chief Engineers in planning and implementation of timely releases of engineering products
  • Incorporate LM Space E&T strategies for digital transformation into SRP
  • Ensure standard technical processes and tools, and training are available and properly implemented
  • Further, develop structural-mechanical layouts, using advanced composites and aerospace metallic materials for flight structures and weldments. Experience in metal machining, welding, and composites are preferred.
  • Some travel will be required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional product development team environment
  • Fundamental understanding of aerospace vehicle structures, mechanisms, thermal products, materials and processes
  • Experience with aerospace vehicle flight hardware design, analysis, manufacture, or test and integration
  • Demonstrated ability to drive hardware production activities through delivery to the program
  • Proficient with CAD modeling, drafting and release in Creo/EPDM (CREO) or equivalent
  • Demonstrated leadership experience - minimally as acting manager, technical lead, or project manager
  • Experience with all aspects of mechanical design, including layout and design documentation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance

Desired Skills:

  • Proficient with Creo or equivalent CAD solid modeling tool
  • Experience with EPDM (Parts Lists)
  • Experience in machined metals design as well as welding
  • Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 including GD&T
  • Considered a technical leader in mechanical design
  • Previous experience planning and allocating tasks, managing cost accounts
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and documentation, including SAP, Q-notes, test procedures, etc.
  • Demonstrated full spectrum leadership competencies including communicating with positive impact, developing enduring relationships, making effective decisions, delivering value, building organizational talent, and being accountable.
  • Familiar with Reentry Vehicle or Spacecraft Design
  • Willingness to mentor junior analysts
  • Experience with additive manufacturing
  • Active Top Secret or Secret Clearance
