The typical base pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $110,000 - $130,000 per year. GEA Group has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States.

The pay range is not guaranteed compensation or salary. The estimated range is the budgeted amount for the position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications, and other job-related reasons. You may be eligible for additional rewards, such as a discretionary bonus (based on eligibility) and/or equity awards.

The Process Engineer will play a key role in supporting the sales, engineering, commissioning, and optimization of GEA Process Systems within the Food & Dairy Department. This position is responsible for designing and refining process equipment configurations, flow systems, and plant operations. The engineer will ensure that all developed processes meet or exceed both GEA’s internal standards and the customers’ goals. The role also demands adherence to company and client standards for quality, safety, and environmental compliance.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for up to one remote workday per week.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all project phases from initial customer engagement to pre-award sales support, cost estimation, proposal development, engineering, commissioning, and process optimization.
  • Manage specific technical aspects of projects, ensuring compliance with design standards and optimization to meet customer specifications within budget, time, and contract parameters.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to meet milestones and deliverables.
  • Identify, justify, and manage scope changes throughout the project lifecycle, specifically regarding process design.
  • Deliver technical solutions that meet or exceed customer requirements and expectations.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of meetings, correspondence, and technical deliverables.
  • Develop BFDs, PFDs, P&IDs, and perform heat and mass balances.
  • Create specifications for process equipment and utility consumption.
  • Contribute to plant layout and elevation drawings.
  • Review and approve design changes, specifications, and drawings.
  • Write process and functional descriptions of operation.
  • Lead software FATs, verifying conformance with functional descriptions (FDS).
  • Plan and implement testing and commissioning procedures.
  • Provide remote and on-site technical support, troubleshooting, and customer service.
  • Conduct plant audits and performance reviews.
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory and industry standards, including sanitary design requirements.
  • Support safety evaluations such as HAZOP sessions.
  • Partner with internal global teams and technology centers for continuous improvement and successful project execution.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to reduce design discrepancies and documentation gaps.
  • Build strong relationships with key technical stakeholders.
  • Deliver both pre-sale and post-sale support: including site evaluations, pilot trials, technical presentations, and training sessions.
  • Evaluate third-party proposals and equipment specifications.
  • Support Sales Managers by interacting directly with customers and building trusted relationships.
  • Lead or assist with system commissioning and training of customer personnel.
  • Continue to provide technical support and process improvement recommendations post-installation.
  • Plan and execute pilot trials to validate process performance and size equipment.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior Process Engineers (I–III).
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25%, with short-term travel occasionally increasing to 40%, based on project demands.

Your Profile / Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Food Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 6 years of industry experience.
  • Prior experience in food, dairy, or beverage processing preferred.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards, such as cGMP, PMO, USDA, and 3A.
  • Experience with liquid processing or membrane filtration is a plus.
