TxDOT's Traffic Safety Division is looking for one Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Analyst I or II based in Austin, TX. As an ITS Analyst, you can help advance statewide priorities relating to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Traffic Signal Systems.

Position Description

Develops and revises new and existing intelligent transportation system(s) (ITS). Performs responsible technical work including the analysis, design and implementation of automated traffic management systems. May be responsible for administering information resources and telecommunication hardware/software located within an Intelligent Transportation Operations Center. Work requires contact with governmental and private entities.

ITS Analyst I: Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

ITS Analyst II: Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the

supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Essential Duties:

ITS Analyst I, B21 $54,278 - $87,046

  • Develops ITS which includes writing design documentation and methods, preparing work diagrams and data flow charts, evaluating systems hardware and hardware, analyzing user requirements, testing software and performing field tests.
  • Keeps abreast of new technology to improve current and projected systems.
  • Prepares and presents demonstrations on ITS
  • Provides technical assistance and support for ITS.
  • Provides training to users regarding ITS.
  • Researches and evaluates vendor supplied hardware and software
  • Reviews and monitors contracts related to ITS
  • Reviews traffic management plans and inspects project sites to ensure compliance with system requirements.
  • Provides technical assistance and inspections in the field as needed.
  • Writes or revises specifications, amendments, and contract provisions related to ITS.

ITS Analyst II, B23 $61,184 - $99,658

All the responsibilities of an ITS Analyst I including.

  • Consults users as the primary source of contact for ITS development and support.
  • Coordinates and assists ITS designers and districts on system applications for software and hardware.
  • Provides expert technical assistance and support for ITS.
  • Provides technical direction in the analysis and design of ITS.
  • Provides training to users regarding ITS.
  • Researches, evaluates and recommends vendor supplied software and hardware.
  • Serves on committees regarding ITS.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunications. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

  • ITS Analyst I:1 year experience in System analysis, design, computer programming.
  • ITS Analyst II: 3 years' experience in System analysis, design, computer programming
  • (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Competencies:

ITS Analyst I

  • Considerable knowledge of Intelligent transportation and traffic management systems
  • Applicable computer programming techniques and languages
  • Contract development and oversight
  • Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals
  • Proficient skill in coordinating labor, materials, and equipment
  • Analyzing and organizing business and technical data
  • Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others

ITS Analyst II

All the competencies of an ITS Analyst I including;

  • Extensive knowledge of systems development using analysis, design and documentation methodologies
  • Applicable computer programming techniques and languages
  • Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external
  • Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
