University Communications and Marketing provides strategic leadership to protect, advance, and elevate the university's brand and reputation in Indiana and around the world by creating guiding resources for and collaborating with communications and marketing partners across all Indiana University (IU) campuses, schools, departments, and centers.
Job Summary

The IU Influencer Internship is your opportunity to turn your passion for social media into real-world experience - while helping tell the story of what it means to be a Hoosier.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Creates and posts original content (photos, videos, Stories, Reels, TikToks, etc.) that highlights IU life, events, and initiatives.
- Represents IU authentically and enthusiastically on personal social media accounts.
- Collaborates with the IU social media team to brainstorm and execute content ideas aligned with university priorities.
- Stays on top of social media trends and suggests creative ways to adapt them for IU's brand.
- Participates in content planning, campaign development, and performance analysis.
- Builds a professional portfolio of published work and gains behind-the-scenes experience with a global higher ed brand.
- Networks with communications professionals and fellow student creators across campus.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
- A strong presence on social media and a passion for content creation
SKILLS
Required
- Comfortable being on camera and sharing your voice and personality online
- Knowledge of communications channels; publications, web, and multimedia with an understanding of online/social media strategy and savviness with platforms
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects; experience with Illustrator
- Demonstrates experience in visual storytelling, including vertical video production, editing, trend adaptation, audio selection, and transitions
- Ability to efficiently and creatively apply brand standards to various projects
- Ability to be comfortable utilizing personal devices, technology, and equipment
Preferred
- Ability to be passionate about highlighting the Hoosier experience for prospective and incoming students
- Ability to create awareness of events and opportunities for current students, and fostering connections with alumni, fans, and friends of the IU
- Enthusiastic and uncompromising about ensuring IU is always seen as a primary influencer in social communications both among our peers and in the world
- Ability to be passionate about the success of initiative teams
- Strong visual storytelling skills - especially with short-form video
- Familiarity with editing tools like CapCut, TikTok, Canva, or similar apps
- A positive, collaborative attitude and a desire to grow your creative and professional skills
- Enthusiasm for IU and a desire to help others see what makes it special
