The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking a skilled and motivated Nurse Practitioner to join the Cardiothoracic team at our main hospital campus in Burlington, VT. This is a 1.0 FTE exempt primarily weekday position with rotating weekend coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily rounds on post-op and step-down cardiothoracic surgical patients
- Conduct comprehensive histories and physical examinations
- Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests and lab results
- Assist in perioperative management, including chest tube care, wound management, and hemodynamic monitoring
- Formulate and implement care plans in collaboration with attending physicians
- Facilitate patient transitions of care, including discharge planning and summaries
- Communicate with patients and families regarding clinical status, treatments, and expectations
- Participate in multidisciplinary care team meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety programs
- Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff and other allied health professionals
- Participate in education of students, residents, or new staff as appropriate
Education
- Completion of a master's, post-master's, or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
- Current certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or an equivalent body is required.
- AGACNP Certification preferred.
Experience
- Three years cardiovascular or adjacent nurse practitioner experience preferred; minimum one year experience required.
- Newer NP graduates with post-surgical RN experience may be considered.
