The Sustaining Engineer is responsible for providing factory support regarding the resolution of production issues for the Busbar LoB. Busbar is primarily an Engineered-To-Order (ETO) product, which means each customer order is specifically engineered for each customer. This generally leads to higher complexity and variation for departments supporting this product family. This role would involve working closely with the production teams to identify opportunities for maintaining and improving existing manufacturing systems and processes, supporting production teams, and troubleshooting issues that arise during the manufacturing process. The Sustaining Engineer will be a key liaison between engineering and production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, products meet required specifications, and issues with quality or processes are resolved effectively. This position is ideal for individuals who are searching for a fast-paced environment with a mix of product design and manufacturing support and will involve cross-functional collaboration from multiple support teams across the Anderson production facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Investigate and resolve production issues related to both HPB and iMPB busbar product lines
  • Support day-to-day production by providing support for the factory floor, helping resolve immediate production challenges, process interruptions, or deviations from product specifications.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring production issues or defects and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences
  • Support product changes/improvements working alongside global engineering, quality, and production teams to implement design or process changes in existing products, ensuring changes are feasible and do not disrupt on-going production.
  • Provide design support for supply chain issues; collaborate with supply chain and procurement teams regarding any changes in purchased components requiring updates to core product designs.
  • Support New Product Development and Introduction (NPDI) launches of new designs and offerings and ensure smooth transition to production in collaboration with busbar R&D personnel.
  • Ensure quality of ETO designs before being released to production through participation in design reviews and gathering feedback from key stakeholders regarding concerns before production begins.
  • Improve Design for Manufacturability (Safety, Quality, and Efficiency) by working with quality and project management personnel to integrate customer feedback regarding opportunities for design improvements or optimizations.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities in the production process without compromising quality or delivery timelines.
  • Maintain Bills of Material (BOM) and other technical documents to ensure quality and accuracy of production designs.
  • Provide support for Oracle Product Lifecycle Management as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3+ years of experience in product design
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, industrial, manufacturing engineering or related field
  • Experience in manufacturing environments with a strong understanding of production processes particularly relating to ETO or custom products.
  • Proficient in Solidworks CAD software regarding 3D modeling and 2D drafting capabilities. Experience with PDM system preferred.
