Job Description

The Manager of Applications oversees the team of analysts involved with or supporting non-clinical applications as well as coordinating and overseeing projects related to Information Systems Applications. The Manager is also responsible for directing and leading the application analyst team to efficiently and effectively support end users with various computer systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and manages the daily operations of the clinical applications team to assure efficient and effective department outcomes and end-user support.
  • Provides management functions to assure effective day-to-day operations.
  • Participates as a member of the team to achieve business goals, quality outcomes and customer satisfaction.
  • Practices within legal, ethical and professional boundaries.
  • Plans, directs, and manages the daily operations of the applications team to assure efficient and effective department outcomes and end-user support.
    • Leads implementations of computer system upgrades, patches, packages, or new modules by coordinating resources, training, integrated testing, documentation, and time-line management; evaluates new computer systems products or services and suggests changes to existing products or services to better aide the end user.
    • Monitors application projects and adjusts work load distribution as necessary to accommodate changing priorities.
    • Consults with applicable management and end-user departments to ensure the computer system meets their needs and is functioning appropriately; assists with issue resolution by working with other IS team members, vendors, and/or departmental staff.
    • Monitors and ensures all staff comply with hospital policies and procedures for security, confidentiality, software licenses and use of equipment (Internet, email, phones, etc.).
    • Coordinate and implement upgrades and changes with internal and external project managers and vendors.
  • Provides management functions to assure effective day-to-day operations.
    • Budgets within parameters.
    • Monitors and adjusts staffing and workload as appropriate.
    • Conducts interviews, hires, and terminates staff in collaboration with Human Resources.
    • Assumes development and maintenance of appropriate policies and procedures as relates to area of responsibility.
    • Monitors staff and department to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, regulatory and accreditation agencies.
    • Coaches team members and leads the team toward improvement.
    • Performance appraisal process is completed per policy.
    • Oversees department programs and initiatives to assure compliance, optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Participates as a member of the team to achieve business goals, quality outcomes and customer satisfaction.
    • Provides assistance to team members as requested or required.
    • Regular and timely attendance is required for this job.
    • Participates on committees/councils and performance improvement activities as requested/required.
    • Successful completion of probation and annual skills/competency requirements.

Qualifications

Required:

Education: Bachelor' s Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or other field of study; or equivalent required experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience (with degree requirement); eight (8) years (with Associate degree); or ten (10) years (with no degree) in an Information Systems role including application experience; with three years' experience in a leadership role within healthcare applications.

Preferred:

Education: Master's Degree in Computer Science, Project Management or Business Administration.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience as an IT project manager. Experience supporting Cerner or PeopleSoft application software.
