Description

BlueHalo, an AV company, is seeking a FPGA Test Engineer to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team supporting multiple technology areas. Our SpaceTech division develops high performance electromechanical, electro-optical, control, and communication systems. These solutions include digital signal processing algorithms deployed using System on Chip (SoC) or Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) in combination with General Purpose Processors (GPPs) and microcontrollers.

On any given day, the selected candidate may be asked to:

  • Develop and execute detailed test plans to validate FPGA functionality, performance, and compliance with system-level requirements.
  • Create and maintain testbenches to simulate and verify FPGA behavior under normal and edge-case scenarios.
  • Perform hardware validation using lab instruments (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, pattern generators, etc.) on FPGA development boards or target systems.
  • Automate testing processes using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Tcl) to enable regression testing and reduce manual test effort.
  • Conduct fault injection and robustness testing to ensure the FPGA design handles unexpected conditions, especially important in radiation-prone space environments.
  • Collaborate closely with FPGA design engineers to debug and isolate functional issues discovered during test or simulation.
  • Verify integration with system interfaces, such as high-speed communication protocols (e.g., SPI, I2C, PCIe, SpaceWire).
  • Participate in system-level testing including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), thermal, vacuum, and vibration testing.
  • Document test procedures, test results, and failure analyses in support of design reviews, compliance checks, and certification processes.
  • Ensure compliance with space or aerospace standards (e.g., ECSS, MIL-STD, DO-254), and support audits or external verification as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering or computer science.
  • 3 years’ experience in FPGA testing or verification, preferably in aerospace or defense.
  • Proficiency in VHDL/Verilog and simulation tools (e.g., ModelSim, Vivado, QuestaSim).
  • Experience with test automation and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Tcl).
  • Strong debugging and analytical skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with space-qualified FPGAs (e.g., Xilinx, Microsemi, or similar).
  • Knowledge of radiation effects and mitigation strategies in digital designs.
  • Familiarity with DO-254, ECSS, or other space-industry standards.
  • Hands-on experience with environmental testing (thermal vacuum, vibration, etc.).
  • Experience with Git, Jenkins, or other CI/CD tools.
  • Familiarity with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $165,000
