PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a Software Engineer III (Embedded Systems) to support our client — a global medical technology leader focused on transforming lives through meaningful innovation. This hybrid role based in Irvine, CA offers you the chance to develop cutting-edge firmware for life-saving implantable medical devices that improve health outcomes around the world.

What You'll Do

As a key contributor on a multidisciplinary R&D team, you’ll:

  • Design, develop, and integrate real-time embedded firmware for Class III active implantable medical devices.
  • Align firmware development with IEC 62304, FDA, and ISO standards.
  • Identify and mitigate cybersecurity vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with FDA premarket cybersecurity guidance.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, systems, regulatory, and clinical teams to ensure seamless device performance and integration.
  • Support verification and validation through rigorous testing including HIL simulations, unit tests, and automated environments.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality SDLC documentation for regulatory submission (e.g., 510(k), PMA, CE Mark).
  • Guide product evolution from prototype through transfer to sustaining engineering.

What You Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science, Computer/Software/Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of embedded firmware experience, with 1+ years on implantable or Class III medical devices.
  • Strong in C/C++, RTOS, and microcontroller-based development.
  • Experience with BLE, RF, NFC, or other wireless protocols.
  • Familiarity with firmware cybersecurity and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency with debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.).
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and project management skills.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA QSR, and M&A due diligence in the medtech space.
  • Experience with secure bootloaders, cryptographic protocols, and OTA firmware updates.
  • BLE stack optimization for ultra-low power and performance-critical applications.
  • Development experience on iOS/Android/Windows applications and in C#.NET using Visual Studio.

Interview Process: Virtual (Teams) — Initial with Hiring Manager, followed by a secondary team interview

Schedule: Full-time | M–F, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM | HYBRID

Contract: Potential for extension based on performance and project needs.

Pay Details: $78.78 per hour
