To meet our growth challenges, WSP is currently seeking a Lead, Electrical Engineer to join our teams located in any of our Calgary office.

As part of our dynamic and growing Process and Energy Electrical Group, this position involves close collaboration with clients and stakeholders to understand their electrical engineering needs, ensuring successful project coordination and management. The ideal candidate will bring senior level technical expertise and consulting experience, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining high standards of quality and safety and have the ability to lead and mentor junior engineers and designers. You will be responsible for the electrical engineering on a variety of assigned medium and large sized projects. This covers positions at the working level of full electrical engineering specialization. Responsible for design basis, equipment selection, detailed design and field implementation at a senior level.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Take responsibility for ensuring that WSP Project procedures are utilized on all projects.
  • Providing specialist guidance in the design and delivery of complex engineering projects within the Electrical discipline
  • Able to put together rough concepts for execution by others.
  • Complete feasibility studies and technical report writing.
  • Support the planning, scheduling, cost control activities in the design as related to the Project Plan
  • Project management responsibilities include:
    • Reporting and scheduling
    • Engineering/Design
    • Procurement
    • Construction Support
  • Responsible for reviewing and stamping drawings (as required); using experience in interpreting design codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Establishing scope of work for each project or proposal
  • Oversee scope change requests and evaluate the need or sign-off prior to submission to the client
  • Scheduling and expediting work of department
  • Ability to run computer simulation programs as well as in-house engineering spreadsheets.
  • Review and understand various aspects of the project in order to rate, select and reapply equipment. Capable of specifying equipment from first principles.
  • Supervising an engineering group involved in the conception, planning and development of engineering design, projects, processes, proposals, and estimates
  • Guiding through to completion in accordance with the schedule and budget on assigned major project of highly technical complexity
  • Assisting in the negotiation of critical engineering issues
  • Implementing, and maintaining existing and new design standards, guides, and procedures
  • Assigning and reviewing work of subordinate design engineering staff
  • Define scope and create WBS
  • Verify scope with client and follow procedures to monitor and control changes on project
  • Work with disciplines to understand the cost and schedule impact of changes
  • Accountable for establishing basic design criteria for the project with the client; ensure compliance of PEP with established National Business Line procedures
  • Advocate the usage of and confirm compliance with all of the client and corporate procedures
  • Expected to work with all levels of the organization in a cohesive manner.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Licensed P.Eng with APEGA
  • At least 10+ years of previous experience as an electrical engineer in an EPCM environment in the domestic oil and gas industry
  • Previous experience in a Lead Engineer role
  • A strong leader with a desire to mentor and coach other engineers
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently
  • Vast experience and exposure with field operations.
