Location: Willoughby, OH

Reports To: Tool Room Supervisor / Engineering Manager

Shift: 1st Shift

Pay Range: Up to $30.00 an hour

Position Summary:

The Tool Maker II is responsible for building, repairing, modifying, and maintaining precision stamping dies and tooling for production. This role requires a solid understanding of die construction, blueprint reading, machining, and metal stamping processes. The ideal candidate will work independently or as part of a team to ensure tooling meets quality standards and supports efficient production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and assemble new stamping dies and tooling to precise specifications.
  • Perform repairs, maintenance, and modifications on existing tools, dies, and fixtures.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and CAD drawings to ensure accurate fabrication and repair.
  • Perform die tryouts, troubleshooting, and adjustments to ensure proper operation and quality output.
  • Inspect tooling components for wear or damage and recommend improvements or replacements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to support manufacturing goals.
  • Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.) to verify part conformance.
  • Document tooling changes and updates in maintenance logs or ERP systems.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of a Tool & Die apprenticeship program or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a Tool Maker in a metal stamping environment.
  • Proficient in machining operations and capable of working from blueprints with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of tool steels, heat treating, and die components.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with progressive, blanking, and forming dies.
  • CNC machining or wire EDM experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ISO quality systems and lean manufacturing principles.
