Job Title: Tool Maker II #COH
Location: Willoughby, OH
Reports To: Tool Room Supervisor / Engineering Manager
Shift: 1st Shift
Pay Range: Up to $30.00 an hour
Position Summary:
The Tool Maker II is responsible for building, repairing, modifying, and maintaining precision stamping dies and tooling for production. This role requires a solid understanding of die construction, blueprint reading, machining, and metal stamping processes. The ideal candidate will work independently or as part of a team to ensure tooling meets quality standards and supports efficient production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and assemble new stamping dies and tooling to precise specifications.
- Perform repairs, maintenance, and modifications on existing tools, dies, and fixtures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and CAD drawings to ensure accurate fabrication and repair.
- Perform die tryouts, troubleshooting, and adjustments to ensure proper operation and quality output.
- Inspect tooling components for wear or damage and recommend improvements or replacements.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to support manufacturing goals.
- Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.) to verify part conformance.
- Document tooling changes and updates in maintenance logs or ERP systems.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of a Tool & Die apprenticeship program or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a Tool Maker in a metal stamping environment.
- Proficient in machining operations and capable of working from blueprints with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of tool steels, heat treating, and die components.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with progressive, blanking, and forming dies.
- CNC machining or wire EDM experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with ISO quality systems and lean manufacturing principles.
