Duties

Performs a variety of duties to support the Station Library under the direct supervision of the Supervisory Librarian:

Assists the Supervisory Librarian in the overall operation of the library and assumes all duties and responsibilities in the absence of the Supervisory Librarian.

Leads library staff in providing engaging library events that accomplish the goals of boosting the morale, welfare, and readiness of the community; improving literacy and access to educational and enriching activities; and connecting patrons to library resources and to the library itself. Ensures that all events are age-appropriate and well researched to meet both the educational needs of participants and the professional standards of MCCS libraries. Ensures that library events that do not accomplish these goals are adjusted or removed. Understands scope of authority in making independent decisions and establishes, maintains, and fosters positive and effective working relationships.

Plans, coordinates, and conducts special events such as the annual Summer Reading Program. Assigns work activities, projects, and programs related to special events to library staff and monitors work flow. Complete Deliberate Risk Assessment Worksheets (DRAWs), marketing requests, transportation requests, contracting paperwork, and other documents required for events. Complete After-Action Reports (AAR) for assigned special events to recount all important/key information and other suggestions and recommendations to facilitate and enhance future events. Supports library staff in their programming efforts. Maintains a functional understanding of all library programs including program guidance, procedures, policies, and directives. Provides training to all employees regarding library programs and ensures they have knowledge of and access to the resources available to them. Presents library programs in the absence of regular program presenters.

Attends and promotes library services at local community events. Provides outreach to encourage library use at places other than the library, including events at schools, info fairs, newcomers' briefs, job fairs, etc. Identifies and anticipates changing community needs or library best practices and develops plans, services, and programs to address these changes. Conducts tours and offers programs to visiting groups.

Prepares, arranges and maintains content to promote library programs and services. Prepares and distributes official information via the web, social media, and other media venues such as AFN. Delivers library briefs and presentations as needed. Acts as liaison between patrons and the library on social media. Maintains a calendar of events and effectively communicates the upcoming events to both the staff and the community. Maintain contacts with key figures in the community to effectively market library activities and be aware of outreach opportunities.

Acts as a NAF Purchase Cardholder to purchase all items related to the event supplies needed for the library. This requires the incumbent to perform extensive market research, in-person shopping, and transportation of goods. Ensures that purchases do not exceed the assigned budget. Inventories equipment and supplies relating to events and programs on a recurring basis and purchases items to replenish damaged, missing or depleted supplies.

Oversees volunteers at the library and works with the Volunteer Coordinator to promote volunteer opportunities. Maintains necessary volunteer information for processing Letters of Appreciation and reporting volunteer data.

Requires continuous cross-training to fill staff shortages and perform basic circulation and program duties such as: registering new users, explaining circulation and library use policies, reserve materials, present programs, and clear rotating personnel.

Requires continuous learning in the use of makerspace equipment. Assists customers as needed with training and use of the equipment. Assists staff in developing programs featuring this equipment.

Provides limited reference and reader's advisory by using basic reference resources and online databases. Assists patrons with the online catalog and database, Microsoft Office applications, and internet navigation. Shelves returned and new materials.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage to library materials. May train and provide technical guidance to other library employees. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

1. Successful completion of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

2. Must have at least one year experience that demonstrates knowledge of basic and wellestablished

library procedures related to developing/presenting library programs.

3. Experience developing, organizing and conducting events for all ages within the

community.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to include weekends, holidays and

evenings.

2. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

3. Basic office skills in typing, filing, good customer service skills, and knowledge of

Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and experience working on various

social media platforms.

4. Flexibility to adapt to a changing environment as required by mission.

5. Knowledge and experience in providing training and education to customers and staff.
