About the role

Join the Prevention, Default Management and Claims operations Team, where we make it easy to find solutions to housing projects that are facing challenges. In this role, you will contribute to and support the management of the activities of the Housing Programs Default Management operations to provide high quality customer service and protect the interests of CMHC.

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct in-depth reviews of expert analyses for the purposes of assessment, recommendation or approval, calling on your knowledge of loan recovery, underwriting and loan servicing, and of financial, legal and real-estate management of multi-unit buildings.
  • Ensure an in-depth analysis of projects in financial difficulty is conducted and recommend fitting solutions to resolve complex and sometimes delicate default situations.
  • Provide leadership by managing workflow, improving operational processes and implementing initiatives to address a wide range of operational needs.
  • Establish and maintain strong collaboration with clients and key internal stakeholders, including Housing Programs teams and Legal to ensure strategic alignment and support sound critical judgment and decision-making.
  • Proactively engage with stakeholders to share subject matter expertise, communicate key insights, and contribute to the development and refinement of business strategies, and operational practices.

What you should have:

  • An undergraduate degree in commerce, business administration, law, real estate and/or finance, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of seven years experience working in multi-unit mortgage recovery, default management, underwriting or loan administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of risk drivers related to mortgages for multi-unit projects of five or more units.
  • Working knowledge of CMHC mortgage insurance products and of the National Housing Strategy.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills in both official languages (French and English) with the ability to clearly communicate decisions and challenge objections when required.
  • Strong ability to lead project teams, coordinate tasks, and drive results across functions.

It would be great if you also had:

  • An accounting (CPA) professional designation.
