Electrical Engineering Department Manager
Objective
The ideal candidate will possess advanced electrical engineering expertise, proven leadership capabilities, strong organizational abilities, and exceptional communication skills. This role demands comprehensive experience in industrial and utility sectors, with particular emphasis on electrical substation design and project management.
Responsibilities
Departmental Leadership:
- Establish operational procedures, create scheduling frameworks, delegate tasks, and optimize workflow efficiency
- Deliver technical guidance and mentorship to team members throughout project lifecycles
- Communicate directives through both written documentation and verbal briefings
- Uphold departmental excellence in safety protocols, technical precision, quality standards, and regulatory compliance
- Formulate project scopes and develop comprehensive cost projections for client proposals
- Ensure timely delivery of engineering outputs while maintaining fiscal responsibility within allocated budgets
- Assess resource needs to optimize team composition and technical capabilities while identifying professional development opportunities
- Forecast departmental labor allocation across active projects and establish appropriate staffing strategies
Technical Leadership:
- Direct complex engineering initiatives within industrial, utility, and high-voltage infrastructure sectors
- Provide specialized expertise in substation and transmission system design
- Guide departmental technical development across multiple engineering disciplines including:
- Selection and specification of medium and low voltage power distribution systems
- Creation of electrical single-line diagrams and system schematics
- Development of protective relay coordination schemes and control programming
- Design of motor control centers and electrical panel wiring configurations
- Specification of cable management systems, conduit routing, and power cable sizing
- Execution of electrical system analyses including arc flash studies, load flow modeling, and protective device coordination using industry-standard software platforms
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 15 years of hands-on electrical engineering experience within utility and heavy industrial environments
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
Professional Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership experience in supervisory or senior technical roles with direct report management
- Proficiency in electrical power system modeling software (particularly SKM platforms)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication capabilities
- Ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances
