Position: Battery Materials Scientist

Location: The Woodlands, TX

Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Travel: Approximately 30% domestic, 10% international

Overview:

System One is partnering with a global battery materials and specialty chemicals business in hiring a Battery Materials Scientist to support its growing U.S. operations. This role combines hands-on lab work, technical troubleshooting, and customer-facing execution. The position will serve as a key liaison between North American customers and the global R&D team.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and test electrolyte samples in accordance with customer specifications
  • Act as the technical point of contact for key customer accounts
  • Translate customer needs into actionable input for R&D and commercial teams
  • Coordinate logistics, shipping, and documentation related to sample delivery
  • Provide on-site customer support, including troubleshooting and relationship management
  • Contribute to lab setup, maintenance, and quality control processes
  • Collaborate with global teams across R&D, sales, and manufacturing
  • Represent the company at conferences and industry meetings
  • Lead battery materials projects and initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in battery materials, chemical R&D, or a related technical field
  • Experience with electrolyte preparation and battery material testing
  • Must have experience with electrolytes as it relates to lithium-ion batteries, specifically lithium metal batteries, and NOT lithium-ion batteries with graphite anode active materials
  • Ability to engage in technical discussions with customer stakeholders
  • Strong skills in lab work, documentation, and communication
  • Project leadership and cross-functional collaboration experience
  • Mandarin language skills preferred but not required
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
  • Availability for 2–3 weeks of onboarding and training in China
