Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Work Assistant for the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Work Assistant will assist with several research studies relating to Diabetes and Metabolism. Training will be provided for any listed techniques or skills you are not yet proficient in.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Maintains accurate, organized, and up-to-date records of procedures and analyses using both paper and electronic platforms.
  • Assists with ongoing research projects, including but not limited to mouse studies, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Assists with and performs bioinformatics analyses of high-throughput sequencing data.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Salary 15.49

Mid Range Salary 75.00

Maximum Salary 150.00

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant science, or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant science plus at least one (1) year of related experience.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency with Internet applications and in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Statistics training and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management.
  • Must work and communicate effectively with both internal and external team members.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to multitask and work well under pressure. • Ability to work and make decisions independently.
  • Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
  • The successful candidate must be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and self-directed, with strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of statistical software (e.g. SPSS, PRISM, R); familiarity with command line operating systems (e.g. UNIX); experience with REDCap database software.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Physical Demands: Reading, standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. Lifting up to 25 lbs. BSL2+ laboratory environment; exposure to study subjects in a clinical environment and exposure to research animal models.
  • Work Environment: Office environment with moderate noise.
