This position is located in the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Children and Armed Conflict (OSRSG-CAAC). The mandate and work of the Office derives from General Assembly Resolution 51/77 and subsequent General Assembly resolutions, as well as successive Security Council resolutions on children and armed conflict. The incumbent will report to the Political Affairs Officer in the Front Office of the OSRSG-CAAC. The Communications Officer is responsible for the planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation of communications strategies designed to promote the protection of children affected by armed conflict. The communication strategy will aim to build awareness of CAAC issues, foster international networking, and collaborative action for the protection, rights and well-being of children affected by armed conflict in line with the mandate and objectives of the OSRSG-CAAC. Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Communications Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Contribute to the development and implementation of communications strategies that raise awareness, drive engagement, build support and have measurable impact with target audiences. • Participate in the development and coordination of strategic communications partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to reach target audiences and maximize impact. • Participate in the creation and management of compelling and relevant content for websites, create and moderate engaging and platform-optimized content for social media channels, including live content, tailored for digital platforms to advance digital communications priorities and campaigns work. • Participate in the development of approaches to analyse, monitor, and report social media, web, and other digital content to measure results, inform content creation, and adjust ongoing initiatives. • Draft compelling narratives and messaging on the work of the UN that engage target audiences across different channels and platforms. • Contribute to the coordination and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver joint outreach and advocacy activities to advance UN priorities. • Contribute to planning for resources and report on budgeting for outreach events and activities. • Draft and produce communications products, such as press releases, press statements, web stories, reports, and infographics. • Support the development of creative campaign concepts, content and materials, including digital and print assets, social media posts, email communications and multimedia content. • Promote campaigns, events and collaboration with stakeholders by organizing media engagement and coverage. • Monitor and evaluate campaign performance, providing regular reports and insights to inform future strategies and initiatives.
Competencies
Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent degree) in communication, journalism, public relations or related fields is required. A first-level or advanced degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in any fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree in the specified fields of studies.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in communications, international relations, or other rlated area is required. Two years of knowledge of current and emerging digital media platforms, their principles and technologies is required. Ability to write for digital platforms, such as social media or websites, for an international organization is required. Knowledge of media landscape and trends is desirable. Knowledge of risks to information integrity - misinformation, disinformation, hate speech, and threats in fragile, post conflict, and crisis environments is desirable. Ability to develop and implement communications strategies is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; and knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
