Job Summary

The Klarman Eating Disorder Center (KEDC) at McLean Hospital is the premiere residential and partial hospital program in the country the treatment of eating disorders. The KEDC provides comprehensive treatment for young adults with eating disorders and co-existing psychiatric illnesses. The program leader for the Klarman Eating Disorders Center will be responsible for overseeing all clinical and administrative operations. Through direct responsibility or delegated responsibility, the program leader will ensure that all activities support the programs’ clinical missions.

The right candidate will have extensive clinical experience and knowledge, an ability to manage a large diverse staff of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and nurses. The candidate must be able to think strategically about the programs’ place in the clinical mission of Mclean Hospital and within the larger MGB system.

Qualifications

Specific Responsibilities/Tasks

A. Working with the Medical Director, Nurse Manager and Director of Admissions, the Program Leader is responsible for ensuring that the clinical mission of the program is met for each patient.

Directs the planning, organizing, coordinating, and monitoring of the program’s clinical and administrative activities.

Communicates information accurately to appropriate staff regarding operational policies and procedures issues.

Communicates information about the program to visitors, other professionals, and referral sources.

Coordinates McLean Hospital (Belmont, MA) administrative requirements with those of the Program. Responds to requests from other departments and federal, state, and community agencies.

Acts as liaison to other departments within McLean.

B. Supervision and Management

The Program Leader works closely with the Medical Director, Nurse Manager, Director of Admissions and Divisional Leadership, and others as indicated below.

Provides supervision for clinicians as needed to ensure that all patients receive clinical services consistent with the mission of the program. Works closely with the appropriate department heads of McLean Hospital in completing work performance evaluations and in managing any performance-related issues or problems.

Leads staff meetings and management meetings to ensure that communication systems are in place such that all staff are adequately apprised of all pertinent information. Routinely attends clinical rounds and other clinical meetings to ensure the delivery of quality services.

Notifies appropriate individuals about problems relating to policy and procedures, physical environment, ethics, and community relations.

Generates reports germane to the running of the program.

Works closely with the McLean Director of Quality Improvement to ensure that all QI functions are implemented by staff in a timely manner and reports are presented to QI Committee.

With the Medical Director and Nurse Manager is responsible for developing all program-specific policies and procedures in coordination with other McLean staff. Ensures ongoing staff orientation and education regarding policy and procedures for existing as well as newly hired staff.

With the Medical Director and Nurse Manager, develops program policies and systems to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients. Ensures staff training in these procedures to ensure implementation of appropriate behavioral programming and data collection.

Responsible for on-call support.

C. Training

Oversees the development of annual training for designated staff as per requirements from regulatory and licensing agencies.

Ensures that the competency-based training program is implemented according to design and provides assessment of and feedback on training skills to relevant staff.

Ensures that all support staff have expertise in Microsoft Office and are capable of performing the relevant clinical and administrative support functions.

Participates in training to update skills.

D. Personnel – for all staff under you:

Supervises selection of new employees; ensures completion of initial orientation for new employees through use of an orientation checklist.

Ensures that all staff receive ongoing supervision, support, and training through their supervisors. Schedules and leads clinical staff meetings.

Integrates McLean employee practices with supervision practices. Monitors implementation of appropriate personnel procedures.

Ensures all staff meet required credentialing standards and are licensed as appropriate.

5. In coordination with department heads and personnel directors for McLean Hospital, oversees all disciplinary action taken for employees.

E. Human Rights

Maintains confidentiality of all clients.

Follows the ethical standards of McLean Hospital and DMH.

Reviews all incidents reports, forwards to QA and notifies relevant regulatory agencies when required.

F. Program Promotion/Marketing

The Program Leader assists in promoting a good public image of the Program. Assures a consistent intake and admissions process and tracks all caller information.

The Program Leader develops systems to ensure activities of the marketing plan developed in collaboration with McLean Hospital Network Development Department are completed.

Qualifications

Education:

Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Business Administration or Nursing required. Doctoral degree preferred. Independent licensure as clinician preferred.
