Job Description:

Hitachi Rail Honolulu is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Traction Power Supervisor to work on our Honolulu Rail Project. As the successful candidate your ideas for continuous improvement and creativity are welcome. The position is based in Pearl City, HI.

Accountabilities:

  • Schedule, supervise, and lead corrective, preventive, and unscheduled maintenance on Traction Power Substation (TPSS) system and equipment, including substations, switchgear, transformers, batteries, UPS, breakers, relays, and programmable logic controllers.
  • Conduct inspections, testing, adjustments, cleaning, lubrication, and proper maintenance while accurately recording maintenance and diagnostic data.
  • Train, support, and guide personnel on traction power maintenance within the Engineering & Maintenance Department and the larger O&M organization.
  • Oversee Troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and resolution of system and subsystem issues, including high-voltage equipment, switches, circuit breakers, and SCADA systems. Ensure compliance with wiring diagrams, schematics, operations manuals, and manufacturers’ maintenance instructions in a railway environment.
  • Supervise and support failure analysis for both major and minor system issues
  • Maintain precise records of TPSS maintenance, equipment performance, and completed work using a computerized maintenance management system
  • Ensure proper execution and documentation of maintenance tasks while monitoring day-to-day performance
  • Ensure corrective and preventative maintenance complies with company safety policies and regulations. Plan maintenance activities to meet system availability requirements
  • Analyzes log files to troubleshoot complex to provide required corrective action and improvement
  • Drive work vehicles when responding to emergencies or as required while on duty
  • Oversee on-site parts management and coordinate the repair cycle to and from the site
  • Produce work blocks and job hazard analysis pertained to planned work
  • Verify all lockout/tagout procedures and end staff safety during maintenance
  • Ensure conformance to operational specifications and tolerances (e.g., verifying dimensions and clearances of parts)
  • Ensure technician adherence to safety, quality, and environmental procedures. Maintain effective employee relations within O&M regulations and union agreements
  • Ensure the effective implementation of first-line response maintenance safety standards
  • Conduct special studies and investigations as needed, acting as a troubleshooter for complex projects
  • Work in close proximity to high-voltage equipment and third rail systems frequently
  • Conduct job and safety briefing as required
  • Perform duties as instructed/directed by Traction Power Manager and the Electrical Engineer
  • Prepare and submit operational, equipment failure, safety, and other required reports
  • Operate electronic test equipment, power tools, and specialized hand tools as needed
  • Ensure availability of calibrated tools, materials, and equipment required for maintenance activities
  • Identify failure trends early to prevent system disruptions
  • Support component overhaul, rehabilitation, and replacement programs
  • Work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays, to meet operational demands
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support system operations
  • Ensure compliance with electrical standards, specifications, and regulations
  • Adhere to safety rules, operating procedures, and first-aid protocols
  • Execute cross-functional job tasks involving track and third rail systems, including but not limited to electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components, in line with training and qualifications

Required Education/Skills:

  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years experience in corrective and preventive maintenance in TPSS equipment
  • Strong supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff
  • Proficient in interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, operations manuals, manufactures’ maintenance instructions, and operating rulebooks.
  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical standards, roles, regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Highly motivated and adaptable to high-pressure situations, with the capability to respond effectively to unexpected workloads, events, and emergencies
  • Ability to multi-task and analyze situations promptly to determine the proper course of action without compromising safety, quality, or performance targets.

The salary range for this position is $93,000 - $139,500.

Final pay is determined by the candidate’s experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.
