Staff Software Engineer, Employer Revenue

Handshake

Your Impact

Handshake is building a diverse team of engineers who care deeply about building high-quality, high-impact products. We’re looking for Staff Engineers who combine strong technical breadth with product intuition and a collaborative mindset.

As a Staff Engineer on the Employer Revenue team, you'll be a key technical leader building products that empower employers to hire early talent. Your work will power Handshake’s self-serve employer growth strategy—directly fueling our company’s impact and success. You’ll partner closely with Engineering leadership to drive execution on critical projects, mentor engineers, guide architectural decisions, and ensure technical excellence across the stack.

Your Role

  • Act as a technical leader across a cross-functional product squad focused on self-serve employer growth and monetization
  • Lead the delivery of high-impact, cross-team initiatives that elevate the employer experience and revenue outcomes
  • Own and evolve the architecture for critical services that support employer workflows such as job creation, job promotion, pricing and packaging, payments, and more
  • Translate business strategy into technical direction by collaborating closely with Product, Design, Data, and Go-To-Market partners
  • Establish engineering best practices for quality, reliability, and scalability across the org
  • Mentor engineers and help shape a culture of technical rigor, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Navigate ambiguity, assess tradeoffs, and make pragmatic decisions that balance long-term scalability with immediate impact

Your Experience

  • Track record of leading high-impact projects from concept through delivery in fast-paced, product-oriented environments
  • Comfortable communicating and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Strong backend expertise and experience building performant, scalable systems
  • Full-stack fluency; comfortable working across the stack and collaborating with design, product, and go-to-market functions
  • Familiarity with modern engineering practices including observability and monitoring, CI/CD, testing, and code quality standards
  • Strong product sensibility—you care deeply about user experience and business impact, not just the underlying technology
  • Passion for mentoring other engineers and improving an organization’s capabilities through clear technical communication and high standards
  • Bonus: experience building and scaling B2B SaaS

Technologies You'll Work With

  • Ruby on Rails
  • React, TypeScript, Webpack, Redux
  • Kubernetes, GCP, PostgreSQL, Redis, ElasticSearch
