Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Central Quality Services team within R&D Quality is seeking a seasoned leader to strengthen and grow the GxP Training program across Gilead R&D. In this role you will lead the development of high-quality GxP training programs from needs analysis to design, development, and effectiveness. You will work across the Development organization with varying functions and leadership to ensure alignment with organizational goals, Quality Standards and industry best practices and bring in cutting-edge technologies to enhance instructional design and the learning experience. You will typically play a lead role in the ongoing evolution of R&D Quality learning and training practices, standards, conventions and tools. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in learning development, project management, strong communication and facilitation skills as well as strong command of GxP regulations. You will lead global, cross-functional R&D Quality training initiatives to ensure that our drug development teams work within regulatory guidelines, standards and internal, Gilead requirements. A strong collaborative and problem-solving mindset along with the ability to influence without authority and drive strategic learning initiatives in a dynamic, matrixed environment is essential.

This position can be located in Parsippany, NJ or Foster City, CA. This is an onsite position at either location with 3 days a week onsite.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of cross-functional GxP training across Development which includes,
    • Identifying training needs within the organization and conducting gap analysis to determine areas for improvement.
    • Understanding training needs, create clear training objectives
    • Determine the most appropriate modality(ies) for training individuals and teams.
    • Developing and curating training content, including presentations, videos, online modules, and other learning materials, applying instructional design principles to create engaging and effective learning experiences.
    • Develop communications and engagement mechanisms to enable maximal participation and training effectiveness.
    • Establishing evaluation methods to measure the effectiveness of training programs.
    • Periodically assessing the relevance and effectiveness of training programs, gathering feedback from participants, and making improvements.
  • Assures consistently high-quality output and integrity of training documentation and data is maintained.
  • Actively develop strong networks with other, internal training networks across Development and Gilead to enable improvements and efficiencies. Stay abreast of industry best practices and affiliated publications, memberships, and technologies to ensure organizational goals are met.
  • Actively seek out new, cutting-edge technology to further improve training initiatives, build efficiency and improve instructional design.
  • Develops assessments and knowledge checks to test understanding of training objectives.
  • May mentor junior staff and provide guidance related to instructional design, development, and building business acumen.
  • May provide direction to and maintain oversight of outsourced service providers.
  • Ensures appropriate use of LMS for training delivery and tracking.
  • Implement training activities and projects with other functional areas and across Development locations worldwide.

Basic qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and Ten Years’ Experience

OR

Masters' Degree and Eight Years’ Experience

OR

PhD and Two Years’ Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the training design and development process required.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems required e.g. Compliance Wire or Veeva training.
  • Experience with content development software e.g. Articulate, Captivate or Camtasia required.
  • Prior project management experience required.
  • Experience in life sciences / biopharmaceutical organizations preferred.
  • Experience with Research and Development GxPs preferred.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills; ability to write clearly and summarize information effectively as well as present complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, manage and execute working sessions, training content and delivery with minimal guidance.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, decision-making and organizational skills are required.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks and execute effectively.
  • Must be able to participate in multiple departmental or interdepartmental strategic initiatives under limited supervision.
  • Experience with Instructional/Learning design principles and application in a technical business environment is required.
  • Instructional Design principles, learning models and adult learning theories and practical application of these in fast-paced large scale corporate environment.
  • Project management skills.
  • Meeting and workshop facilitation skills.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Technical skills in using learning management systems and other training technologies.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Ability to effectively plan and facilitate working sessions with various staff levels to drive development of training content.
  • Ability to communicate and engage with senior leaders.
  • Knowledge of the drug development process (early research through post-marketing) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead without authority and influence programs, projects and/or initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and understanding of team dynamics.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • When needed, ability to travel.

The salary range for this position is:

Other US Locations: $182,070.00 - $235,620.00.

Bay Area: $182,070.00 - $235,620.00.

Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
