Shift: Full-time; 1230-2100; every 9th weekend; holiday rotation

The Medical Assistant I Secretary position provides departmental clerical support to the laboratory and performs duties in the preanalytical phases of laboratory testing. This position is responsible for greeting outpatients, answering phones, receiving lab specimens from nursing staff and physician offices, performing specimen registrations and order entry for lab orders.

Responsibilities
- Communicates with lab phlebotomists, couriers and others for specimen pickup and draw needs
- Registers patients and specimens into the LIS/HIS computer systems
- Manages incoming fax reports and lab orders
- Orders and releases laboratory orders for patient testing in the computer system
- Performs audits on patient orders for accuracy
- Assists with denial work ques and/or billing questions
- Other administrative/Clerical duties as assigned
- Answers incoming phone calls and directs to appropriate laboratory staff as necessary
- Greets outpatients and other guests of the laboratory
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license
- Must have interpersonal skills that are customer and patient focused and exhibit professionalism
- Must be able to read, write and speak English
- Must possess basic computer skills and knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser
Preferred:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Education or courses in health science or medical assistance
- Laboratory or medical office clerical experience
- Prefer experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS)
