Department 00068 - Mechanical Engineering Job Summary

Procures equipment, supplies, and services for the Department of Mechanical Engineering in accordance with University guidelines as well as state and federal procurement laws. Prepares and analyzes financial information, prepares reports and financial statements.

Responsibilities

  1. Serve as primary purchaser for the Mechanical Engineering, procuring inventory, materials, office supplies, lab supplies, and capital goods.
  2. Keep records of all acquisitions to ensure that purchases remain within budget and on schedule and are made in accordance with relevant laws, policies, and requirements.
  3. Receive requisitions and check each item for quantity, specifications, and delivery requirements.
  4. Interacts with vendors and department constituents regarding procurement procedures and status of orders.
  5. Develop and investigate supply sources, and issue request for quotations, proposals, or bids for those items not covered by any existing purchasing arrangement.
  6. Serve as liaison to vendors and suppliers.
  7. Assists with capital and non-capital inventory.
  8. Assists with internal and external auditing projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus one year related experience or equivalency (two years of related work experience can be substituted for one year of education) required. A thorough understanding of general ledger accounting practices, cost analysis and accounting principles, as well as demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Knowledge of PeopleSoft or Access databases may be preferred in some areas.

  • Superior organizational and problem solving skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets
  • One to two years’ experience in a procurement environment or related area
  • Previous experience in a research or university setting
