The team

The Group Controls Assurance Team provides independent and objective assurance and advice to the Group Audit Committee, and to the Boards of Directors of the companies within the Group, over the processes and systems of control and risk management operating in the Group. The Group Controls Assurance Team is based in London and Atlanta. The team is supplemented with additional co-source when required.

What you’ll be doing

As a part of a small but dynamic team, you will spend most of your time conducting fieldwork and testing the financial reporting controls across the Hiscox Group in line with the Group’s independent assurance plan. This will be through working with other members of the team, performing walkthroughs and testing both the design and operating effectiveness of the financial reporting controls that are in-scope.

The role covers several aspects of controls testing, including:

  • ensuring successful testing is performed for the controls selected as in-scope for testing;
  • effective stakeholder and relationship management at all levels;

  • working with and supporting other team members; and
  • helping to build and maintain the Group Controls Assurance Team’s presence and reputation across the Group.

Outside the controls testing, you may be asked to assist with admin tasks and conduct specific reviews or to take on special projects.

  • Must be degree qualified with a professional accountancy, audit, or relevant internal audit qualification.
  • 4+ years audit experience.
  • Experience of Financial Services firms preferred.
  • A dynamic, assertive and self-confident individual who can work independently to deliver without the need for high levels of supervision
  • Strong people and relationship building skills, notably influencing, and negotiating, as well as flexible team working skills
  • Innovative problem-solving skills and the courage to apply them
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

About Hiscox

As an international specialist insurer, we are far removed from the world of mass market insurance products. Instead, we are selective and focus on our key areas of expertise and strength - all of which is underpinned by a culture that encourages us to challenge convention and always look for a better way of doing things.

We insure the unique and the interesting. And we search for the same when it comes to talented people. Hiscox is full of smart, reliable human beings that look out for customers and each other. We believe in doing the right thing, making good and rebuilding when things go wrong. Everyone is encouraged to think creatively, challenge the status quo and look for solutions.

Scratch beneath the surface and you will find a business that is solid, but slightly contrary. We like to do things differently and constantly seek to evolve. We might have been around for a long time (our roots go back to 1901), but we are young in many ways, ambitious and going places.

Some people might say insurance is dull, but life at Hiscox is anything but. If that sounds good to you, get in touch.

At Hiscox we care about our people. We hire the best people for the job, and we’re committed to diversity and creating a truly inclusive culture, which we believe drives success. We have also learned over the past 15 months that working life doesn’t always have to be in the office, and when it’s safe to do so, we will be introducing hybrid ways of working to encourage a healthy work life balance.

We anticipate the successful candidate for this role will be in the office up to 3 days a week. We see it as the best of both worlds: structure and sociability on one hand, and independence and flexibility on the other.

Work with amazing people and be part of a unique culture
