Albertsons-Safeway's Northern California Division has an opening for a Regional Human Resources Manager.

The Regional Human Resources Manager supports a specific geographic within the NorCal Division of retail stores in all aspects of Human Resources programs, practices and strategy. This includes oversight of programs related to diversity, staffing, people development, compensation & benefits, education, policy implementation and enforcement, legal compliance, and record retention. The Regional HR Manager is a leader in change management and influence with their retail store and district leaders to drive results and achieve strategic goals.

Depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate pool, this position may be filled at either the Human Resources Manager (HRM) or Senior Human Resources Manager (Sr. HRM) level.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts prompt and thorough complaint investigations regarding Safeway’s Policy on Harassment, Code of Business Conduct and Store Rules.
  • Partner with Labor Relations and/or Asset Protection regarding complaint investigations of union grievances related to EEO (violation of the company’s Policy on Harassment that prohibits discrimination), wage & hour, workplace violence, etc. and attend union grievance hearings. Also partner with Labor Relations in representing the company at grievance hearings and assisting with other LR related matters.
  • Supports all employment related functions including recruitment, staffing and on-boarding, training and development, associate engagement, associate incentive programs, mentoring and succession planning.
  • Successfully implement and support programs and initiatives, including all annual processes (benefits, compensation, performance management, education, etc.) as well as new training and compliance programs, associate engagement and development initiatives and other projects/programs as communicated from VP and/or Director of Human Resources or corporate departments in order to support both associates and leaders.
  • Direct and influence Store Directors, District Managers, and business partners to support, grow and drive new initiatives.
  • Act as a resource to leadership in the coaching, counseling and support of all matters related to associate performance, career development and bench strength, education (training), balanced workforce (diversity), discipline and conflict resolution.
  • Manage and oversee all compliance related matters in assigned area including those related to the enforcement of state, federal or state laws and regulations, wage and hour compliance, Company policies and company codes of conduct as it relates to people management. Represent the Company in such matters as needed.
  • Engage in the “interactive process” with disabled associates to assess whether a reasonable accommodation can be provided to assist individuals to perform the essential duties of their job.

Salary range is $92,000 to $120,000 per year. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates.

Qualifications

Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree, PHR or SPHR certification desired, or equivalent work experience.

Experience Level

  • Individuals in this role should have a minimum of three years of generalist experience in Human Resources, including investigation.
  • Union experience is preferred.
  • Grocery or retail experience is preferred.

Travel Requirements: Varies based on business need and assigned region. For most regions, frequent daytime travel to various stores can be expected. Some overnight travel may be required.

  • Work may be performed in a temperature-controlled environment.
  • Must sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • May spend long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
  • May use calculators, keyboards, telephone and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.
  • Workday is fast paced. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
