The Role and Department
The Finance Business Partner will report to the Head of Finance. This is a business facing role, supporting the primary Financial Plan Owners (UEC members) and their senior management teams (the Financial Plan Holders) on all aspects of the financial management, financial performance and financial control of their business units to ensure that the financial resources of those business units are managed appropriately in order to achieve and/or outperform the required financial outcomes and forecasts set. The role will also be forward-facing, taking the lead in the development of financial planning for their business unit and providing key input and decision-making into the strategic direction of the business unit through the planning round.
In fulfilling this role, the FBP be highly visible and will partner with colleagues at all levels across the University, particularly the wider team within Financial Planning & Reporting, and also with other colleagues in their assigned business unit/s to ensure that inter-departmental and cross-departmental working is achieved as the University moves towards the achievement of its strategic goals. There will also be the opportunity for involvement in key implementation projects and a leadership role in change management.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications/Experience
1. Qualified accountant - ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, CIPFA or equivalent.
2. Professional practitioner with specialist knowledge and expertise to influence service delivery, events and activities within the organisation.
3. Experience of providing specialist advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues, including more senior colleagues.
4. Experience of participating in internal or external networks to share and discuss good practice, develop strong and productive working relationships and positively influence the University’s reputation.
5. Experience of implementing policies and procedures and supporting service improvements.
6. Track record of management and development experience and/or an enhanced management qualification applied across a large service team or teams.
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
7. Excellent spoken and written communication skills including the ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally
8. Strong digital competence across a range of digital devices and apps including digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications and accounting & reporting tools.
9. Committed to continuing professional development to maintain professional recognition.
10. Extensive knowledge and experience of ensuring compliance with regulatory and organisational policy and guidelines.
11. Ability to contribute to planning at operational and strategic levels.
12. Ability to solve problems and decide on and plan appropriate solutions.
Desirable criteria
13. Knowledge and experience of Oracle Fusion/EPM, Microsoft Power Apps (including PowerBI) and Copilot tools.
14. Experience in the UK Higher Education Sector.
