Summary:
The Intern will apply their knowledge of astronomy and physics to create content within Cosm’s industry leading Digistar software program. The intern will gain valuable community outreach experience and have exposure to the worldwide planetarium community.
We’re looking for interns who want to develop experience and skills that will allow them to easily work or collaborate with informal and formal education. Interns will learn the world’s leading digital planetarium software, Digistar. They will work with historical drawings by 17th century astronomer Joannes Hevelius and place them in the simulated sky. They will also adapt astrophysics content on topics such as SDSS Galaxies, pulsars, supernova remnants, star clusters, black holes, JWST, and more, to create interactive planetarium resources.
The interns will learn to use groundbreaking immersive technology to test and present their work. At the end of the program, we’ll host an evening in our revolutionary LED dome where interns can present their work to family and friends.
Responsibilities:
- Learn to use Cosm’s industry-leading Digistar software program in order to complete projects
- Complete our Hevelius constellation project in Digistar
- o Using provided utilities and software, manipulate existing high-resolution scans of artwork to accurately overlay the imagery on the starfield. Also create information pages, including screenshots, for each constellation.
- Create control panel pages for our collection of astrophysics work
- o Expand and modify existing astrophysics demonstrations into an easy-to-use control panel format. The demonstrations will be formatted so that planetarians can use all or part of the work within their own shows.
- Test work and submit finished work to the Digistar Content Team to add to the next software release.
- Present a webinar for Digistar users toward the end of the internship to explain and demonstrate the work to Digistar users around the world.
