Position Title: Project Engineering Manager

Direct Hire or Contract: Contract (3+ Years)

Project: Lincoln Land Energy Center (LLEC) – Springfield, IL – two (2) GE 7FA.02 CCGT, single shaft, air cooled

Bill Rate Desired ($U.S. Dollar)(Contract Only): Standard: $125/hr-$180/hr (FLSA Exempt Employee NO OT. Straight time for all hours worked.)

Pay Rate: Use discretion. Discuss what candidates are looking for and target 25% gross margin, or above $1,000 in spread.

Target Start Date: ASAP

Duration (Contract Only): 3+ Years

Location: ?WFH with minimum 30% travel

Traveling to corporate office of engineer of record’s office or site, it would be the below items that are covered via reimbursement:

  1. Flight
  2. Ground transportation
  3. Lodging
  4. Meals

Must Have Skills:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) (Unless 10-15 Years Experience)
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the Thermal Project Engineering. Combined Cycle or Simple Cycle

Position Overview

Join Kindle Energy’s innovative engineering team! The Project Engineering Manager (PEM) is responsible for the overall technical strategy and execution of projects from the proposal stage through engineering design, construction, and performance testing. The PEM will guide the creation of engineering and design documents using in-house engineering resources and subcontracted Engineer of Record (EOR). This role involves managing the EOR's development of project specifications, plant design, calculations, and engineering solutions, ensuring alignment with Kindle Energy’s standards. Regular collaboration includes multiple trips to the EOR’s office during the design phase, as well as site visits during construction, commissioning, and performance testing. We seek a self-motivated leader with exceptional attention to detail, technical expertise, and a passion for delivering excellence.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Project Development

  • Analyze and understand project requirements during the proposal phase.
  • Evaluate customer specifications, plans, and scope documents, providing detailed feedback.
  • Conduct or review calculations for equipment sizing, heat balances, pipe sizing, and auxiliary load estimates.
  • Develop or review technical specifications to support procurement activities.
  • Assist in bid evaluations and vendor technical selection during cost estimation.
  • Prepare detailed engineering subcontracts for potential EORs.
  • Coordinate with potential customers to ensure contractual and technical conformance.

Project Execution

  • Review and understand all project execution requirements, including contract documents, scope books, technical plans, and specifications.
  • Provide value-engineering suggestions to the EOR or Project Manager to achieve cost savings and improve performance or installation processes.
  • Oversee the review and feedback process for EOR drawings and specifications, maintaining adherence to project schedules.
  • Manage the Engineering Subcontract and ensure timely delivery of specifications, drawings, and related outputs as defined. Approve related invoices.
  • Review vendor deliverables, provide timely feedback, and verify that all requirements are met according to schedule.
  • Conduct and approve technical bid evaluations for equipment procurement.
  • Finalize and approve conformed specifications for use in equipment supplier selection.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison, addressing queries and comments from clients or owner representatives regarding technical designs.
  • Ensure timely resolutions to field issues encountered during installation and commissioning to prevent delays in the project schedule.
  • Oversee and execute performance testing to confirm project performance guarantees are achieved.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License mandatory.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the design, development, or engineering of power plants or industrial facilities.
  • Technical proficiency in power plant processes and systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams effectively.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adept at meeting deadlines and ensuring the timely completion of project milestones.
  • Strong ability to analyze and resolve technical challenges.
