TITLE: Operations Manager, Snowbird Mountain Guides

LOCATION: Snowbird Resort

STATUS: Full-time, 10-month, Salaried

  • This position works full-time 10 months of the year and has 2 months off in the off-season.

SUMMARY

The Snowbird Mountain Guide Operations Manager oversees and manages all Snowbird Mountain Guides programs, staff and operations. The Operations Manager will work with various Snowbird departments and staff to facilitate snowcat skiing, avalanche education and guiding services to Snowbird guests and visitors and also work and coordinate with and support Powderbird staff as needed, to assure efficient operations and guest services in Snowbird Mountain Guides. The Operations Manager works directly with the Snowbird Mountain Operations team to facilitate efficient daily operations.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Hiring and training of all Mountain Guide staff.
  • Daily scheduling of guides, drivers and lunch runners .
  • Communicating and coordinating with Snow Safety, Patrol, Grooming and Mountain School Reservation staff.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with Powderbird management and staff .
  • Organizing and coordinating current and future plans and schedules with Snow Safety staff.
  • Coordinating current and future plans and schedules with reservation staff.
  • Ensuring safe and positive guest experience.
  • Overseeing the operational logistics and maintenance of medical/rescue equipment.

WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB DONE

  • Strong, accomplished skier, physically able to spend long days in extreme weather and mountain conditions.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 4+ years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.
  • 2+ years with Snowbird Mountain Guides preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Clean motor vehicle record.
  • Demonstrated understanding of back country guiding operations and standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety.
  • OEC or comparable certification.
  • AMGA certification and training.
  • Avalanche education (AAI, AIARE).
  • Ability to operate snowmobiles in extreme mountain environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Resolve any customer service complaints as necessary.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Shifts vary, may be early morning or late evening, weekends, holidays, depending on business levels.
  • Must be available on weekends and holidays.
  • Position requires committed availability during peak season.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
  • May experience unusual stress from continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.
  • Direct and continuous contact with guests.
  • Direct and continuous contact with co-workers, management, and other departments.
  • Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to traverse over snowy and icy terrain to access work sites.
  • Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions.
  • Work is outdoors and requires constant exposure to cold and other extreme weather conditions.
