TITLE: Vehicle Maintenance Master Technician/Foreperson

LOCATION: Snowbird Gad Valley Maintenance Garage

STATUS: Hourly, Full-time, Year-round

SCHEDULE: Typically 7am-4pm, with other hours required at times

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Vehicle Maintenance Shop Manager, the Vehicle Maintenance Master Technician/Foreperson at Snowbird, you will help plan, organize, and supervise the operation of the vehicle maintenance shop. You will also apply high-level skills and knowledge of the automotive and heavy truck/equipment industry to maintain and repair ski resort equipment while transcending the maintenance stereotype.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Vehicle Maintenance:

  • Quickly diagnose and repair all vehicle problems.
  • Implement preventative maintenance methods to reduce downtime and reduce P.M. service time.
  • Fabricate advanced structures, vehicles, and vehicle systems.
  • Design and construct vehicle systems from scratch.
  • Document all parts usage and all work done on work orders.
  • File and pursue warranty issues.
  • Maintain tools and work area.
  • Manage motor pool and have daily accountability for damage.
  • Attempt to transcend the maintenance stereotype.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Management:

  • Assist Vehicle Maintenance Shop Manager with prioritizing, planning and supervising daily workload for other mechanics.
  • Manage staff hours.
  • Assign and inspect work.
  • Assist with administrative duties such as purchase orders, receiving, inventory, and ordering parts.
  • Help lead weekly service meetings.
  • Manage and analyze maintenance shop budget.
  • Pass on knowledge to less experienced staff.
  • Help with Staff performance evaluations, respectful communication & feedback, training new mechanics & providing rewards & recognition to the team when warranted.
  • Communicate with department heads to learn of their needs and express the shop’s ability to meet those needs.
  • Pioneer safety practices and dress code. Help lead weekly safety meetings. Follow all Federal, State & Snowbird policies & safety procedures, while implementing new safety practices for the shop, ensuring the team follows these policies.
  • Maintain and improve the culture and conditions of the shop.
  • Reports to the Vehicle Maintenance Manager. Work will be approximately 80% hands-on, 20% administrative.

WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB DONE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
  • 4-6 years of relevant technical experience required.
  • Valid Driver’s License with clean motor vehicle record.
  • Must have all tools for all maintenance tasks.
  • Formal automotive repair training.
  • Formal diesel/heavy equipment training.
  • Formal welding/cutting training and certification.
  • Formal electrical training.
  • Formal hydraulic training.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master certification preferred.
  • Ability to read and write, perform simple math with accuracy, and follow directions and procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic functions on a PC or tablet such as internet access and electronic work order updating.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Regularly scheduled work shifts
  • Requires being on-call and working weekends, holidays, and some evenings.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be prepared to stay overnight, if necessary, on occasional times of road closures.
  • May experience unusual stress from continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Work is outdoors and requires constant exposure to cold and other extreme weather conditions.
  • Work is subject to frequent interruptions making continuity and accuracy difficult, frequent exposure to noise.
  • Work is in a vehicle maintenance shop environment.
  • Direct and continuous contact with co-workers, management and other departments.
  • Must have the ability to interact at any time with guests and other employees in a pleasant manner and maintain good working relationships with others and all departments at Snowbird.
  • Travel: Occasional trips to the Salt Lake Valley.
