Job Description:

Summary:

The Part-Time Research Assistant will report directly to School of International Service Professor Nina Yamanis, the Principal Investigator (PI), to support a pending grant award regarding two HIV prevention interventions. The research assistant will prepare a detailed application for ethical approval from American University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB). The application materials will include, but are not limited to: research protocol, consent forms, recruitment scripts, and interview guides. The research assistant will meet weekly with Professor Yamanis to review progress towards deliverables.

Essential Functions:

1.) Draft research protocol for one or more studies

  • This includes writing the protocol and responding to all questions on the IRB application regarding human subject recruitment and involvement.
  • Use templates from PI to draft responses.

2.) Draft consent forms, recruitment materials and interview guides

  • Use templates from PI to draft forms, materials and guides.
  • Review all materials with PI and incorporate changes to final versions.

3.) Organize materials to support project

  • Create an online tracking system that is accessible to the PI.
  • Keep track of all drafts and compile them into one document for submission to the IRB.

4.) Meet with PI weekly to review progress towards deliverables

  • Meet via video chat or in person for at least 30 minutes.
  • Highlight places in which content is needed from the PI to make progress towards submitting the application.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-Time.
  • 10 hours per week.
  • Continuation of the program/position is contingent upon external funding.

Salary Range:

  • $23.00-$25.00 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Less than 1 year of relevant experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience.
