Does using social media, email, online articles, podcasts, video, and other technology to reach people around the world spark your creative mind and heart? Are you passionate about using your writing and communication skills and your creativity to help others learn and live the gospel of Jesus Christ? Do you love a fast-paced environment for content creation that can help you use real-time audience engagement to guide your work? If so, this internship could be a great fit for you!
The Church magazines offer this exciting, hands-on internship three times a year. We are currently hiring for positions during September–December (Fall). The internship is 40 hours a week for the four-month period. Medical benefits are offered. The position is located at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City, Utah, and interns must be able to come into the office on a regular basis; you may be able to work from home for some of the week, depending on arrangements made with hiring staff at time of hire.
This intern helps plan, create, and publish digital content in multiple channels to promote and support key messages of Church leaders and gospel study. The intern also helps gather and publish stories of members throughout the world. We are looking for someone who can whip up plenty of content quickly, including adapting printed content for digital sharing. The magazine is published in 50 languages but is produced first in English, so foreign language skills are not required. International experience is helpful.
We need an intern whose content creation can be funny one moment and heartwarming the next—someone who can delight the audience with fresh ideas. A background in multimedia creation, video, creative writing, advertising, or copywriting is a plus. Assignments may include interviewing and compiling information from multiple sources. You may also be asked to help optimize SEO and social algorithms.
Applicants for these internships must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university, or they must have recently finished a degree from an accredited college or university (within one year of beginning their internship). Applicants must also be available for video interviews if they are selected as finalists.
Applicants who are working toward a Communication, English, Video Production, or Editing major or minor are preferred. Other qualifications include the following:
To apply, please submit a link to your digital portfolio that includes:
1. A cover letter
2. Your resumé
3. A sample article written for the Liahona or YA Weekly
4. Choose a recent article from the Liahona or YA Weekly, then create supporting related content for:
1. A social media post (a caption and a mockup of the image)
2. An idea for a short video that would share the key message (this can just be a written description of the storyboard concept, but you can mockup something if you wish)
3. A short 200–300-word teaser article that would link to the full article (the Gospel Living app or inspiration feed provides similar articles for reference)
If applicable, include any additional portfolio samples that showcase digital works you’ve created.
